Mansfield women's soccer opens with win
Sophomore Erica Moyer score both goals and sophomore Alexis Wilhelm stopped five shots to lead Mansfield to a 2-0 win over Goldey-Beacom in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.
"We played well," said head coach Tim Dempsey. "I thought we possessed the ball well and for the most part controlled the tempo of play. Erica had a terrific game and Jackie Karlovich was outstanding."
"We also got a strong performance from our back line of Kelsey Gelina, Chelsea Bendart, Leah Fuerst and Jessica Kerwin."
Moyer scored her first goal 18 minutes into the game when Karlovich played a ball over the top of goalie Kristin Degenhardt and Moyer beat the goalie to the ball knocking it into an empty net.
Mansfield scored its second goal in the game's 82nd minute when Moyer took a pass from Kaitlyn McBride and scored off the far post.
Mansfield held a 26-9 shot advantage and Wilhelm was credited with five saves to earn her third career shutout.
The Mountaineers will open the PSAC season when they host Shepherd University on Wednesday.
