The season came to an end for the Cowanesque Valley Indians with a 37-13 loss at Otto-Eldred on Friday, but for one Cowanesque Valley player it was a memorable night.
Evan McCall ran for one touchdown and caught another on Friday night. The Indians senior gained 120 yards on the ground, giving him 1,030 rushing yards this year. McCall is the first Cowanesque Valley player, since the program was re-established in 2004, to rush for over 1,000 yards.
"It definitely speaks a lot about the team and the offense in general," Cowanesque Valley coach Jeremy Loveland said. "For a group that is half sophomores to reach this milestone is special.
"What I preached to them is that this is about everyone. Evan didn't know how many yards he needed before the game, we didn't want him to know."
The Indians led 13-12 at the half, but the second half didn't go their way.
"They came out and made adjustments," Loveland said. "We had calls go against us and that was disappointing. Any time calls go against you it shifts the momentum, but the kids handled it well and didn't lay down."
