The Mansfield University men's and women's basketball teams are set to participate in Hooping for a Cure on Saturday, Feb. 9 when the Mountaineers host Shippensburg University at Decker Gymnasium. The women are set to tip-off at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 3 p.m.

All 16 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) institutions are hosting Hooping for a Cure events throughout January and February. Hooping for a Cure is part of a national breast cancer awareness and fundraising effort on behalf of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association in partnership with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and The V Foundation.

During pregame warm-ups, the Mountaineer women will wear pink Hooping for a Cure t-shirts while the men wear black to show their support of women's cancer awareness. Fans will also have the opportunity to donate towards breast cancer research via the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Hooping for a Cure is a PSAC fundraising and awareness effort as part of the WBCA's Play 4 Kay, formerly known as the WBCA Pink Zone. As of Fall 2012 the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has raised approximately $7 million for cancer research.

Fans attending Saturday's games will have the opportunity to raise money for cancer research by making lay-ups, free throws and 3-pointers during halftime. ZTA and the MU French Horn Club are participating in Hooping for a Cure by setting up fundraising and awareness booths in the lobby of Decker during the games.

Saturday is also First Citizen's Community Bank day with FREE tickets to the games available at Mansfield, Blossburg and Wellsboro branch locations.
