The Mansfield women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit and had a shot to send the game into overtime in the final minute, but Kutztown escaped with a 63-59 victory Wednesday night at Keystone Arena.

Senior Julia Stevenson scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the second half and pulled down seven boards in the game to lead the Mountaineers. Stevenson was a red hot 8-of-10 (80.0 percent) from the floor.

Junior Jena Matter scored 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds while sophomore Alyssa DeRichie recorded 11 points, four steals and three assists. Freshman Katie Fitzpatrick dished out a career-high eight assists in the game.

Kutztown's Ashley Wood scored a game-high 17 points in the winning effort. Adiva Campbell and Natalya Lee each chipped in 10 points.

The Mountaineers led for much of the first half, holding a five-point lead with 10 minutes remaining until halftime. The Golden Bears used an 8-3 run in a four-minute span to tie the game, before jumping out to a seven-point lead with 2:34 left in the half.

Mansfield scored six unanswered point to close out the half trailing the Bears by just one point at 27-26.

Stevenson opened the second half by hitting back-to-back layups to put the Mounties up by three points. However, Kutztown went on to score 13 straight points to hold a 40-30 advantage with 14:01 left in the game.

Katie Yale and Melissa Reid each hit layups to close within six, but the Bears extended their lead back to 10 points. The Mountaineers wouldn't go away quietly though as Matter and Stevenson led Mansfield on a 10-2 run to close within two points with just over nine minutes to play.

Kutztown built their lead up to eight points with less than three minutes remaining in the game, but a 3-pointer by Matter and a jumper by DeRichie closed Mansfield to within three points. A steal by DeRichie and a foul by the Bears put Fitzpatrick at the free throw line with 32 seconds left in the game. Fitzpatrick hit the front end of the one-and-one and missed the second, but DeRichie pulled down a huge offensive rebound for the Mounties.

Katie Fitzpatrick's potential game-tying shot with nine seconds left fell just short and Kutztown escaped with the win.

Mansfield falls to 4-14 overall and 2-12 in the PSAC while Kutztown improves to 11-7 overall and 9-5 in conference play.

The Mountaineers travel to Millersville for a 1 p.m. tip this Saturday.
