Mountie swimming takes third at Vulcan Invitational
Katie McFadden won the 200 yard freestyle and placed second in the 500 yard freestyle to highlight Mansfield's third place finished at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University (PA).
California won the invitational with 711 team points while Lock Haven University finished second with 509 points. Mansfield totaled 402 team points for third while Chatham University finished last with 200 points.
McFadden missed a PSAC qualifying time in the 200 yard free by just 0.03 seconds with her winning time of 2:02.59. The sophomore won the event by over two seconds with the second place time being a 2:04.97. McFadden's time of 5:28.89 was good for a second place finish in the 500 free.
Freshman Anastasia Joswick placed third in the 1,000 yard freestyle at 12:09.42. Joswick also finished fifth in the 200 yard freestyle with her time of 2:09.09.
Freshman Cherie Walters took fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:14.08. Walters was just under three seconds away from a PSAC qualifying time in the event. Walters also took fourth in the 50 breaststroke at 35.16 and fifth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:45.57.
Junior Amani Khabeer finished fourth in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:07.02. She also turned in a pair of fifth place times in the 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle.
Senior Cassondra Griger was fourth in the 50 butterfly with her time of 29.89 and fourth in the 100 butterfly at 1:12.80.
Mountaineer swimming is back in action at the Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 2.
