Jena Matter recorded a double-double and the Mansfield University women's basketball team led by as many as nine points, but a tough West Chester squad held off the Mountaineers for a 72-57 win at Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon in PSAC Eastern division play.

Matter paced Mansfield (3-3, 1-2 PSAC) with a team-high 12 points and 10 rebounds to earn the second double-double of her career. The junior hit four field goals and four free throws to lead three Mounties in double-figure scoring.

Senior Kayla Espigh hit three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points on the day while sophomore Alyssa DeRichie added 10 points. Espigh's 11 points Saturday marks her fifth-straight game in double-digit scoring. She currently leads the Mounties in scoring on the season at 12.2 points a game.

West Chester's (4-2, 1-2 PSAC) Alex Lennon was 9-of-12 from the floor as she posted a game-high 23 points. Lennon grabbed six rebounds and was credited with five blocks in the win.

Ambreelinne Ortman added 13 points for the Golden Rams.

The Mountaineers outrebounded West Chester 48-39 in the game with 23 boards coming on the offensive end.

Mansfield shot just 30.4% (21-69) from the floor while the Rams shot 40.0% (26-65). The Mountaineers tied their season-high in 3-point field goals with six.

The Mounties quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead on an Espigh 3-pointer followed by a DeRichie jumper. Mansfield never trailed throughout the first 15 minutes of the game and led by as many as nine points.

However, the Rams used a 25-9 run over the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 37-30 halftime lead into the locker rooms.

An Espigh 3-pointer brought the Mounties within four points in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Rams scored five straight in just over a minute to lead 44-35.

West Chester took a 19-point lead on a Jasmen Clark 3-pointer with 8:16 remaining in the game, but the Mounties went on a 7-0 run to close within 11. The Mountaineers couldn't pull any closer though, as they ended a two-game win streak with the road loss.

Mansfield is back in action with PSAC cross over games at California University of Pennsylvania and IUP on Dec. 18 and 19.
