MANSFIELD - Senior Jamie Twist recorded eight saves in the second half to hold off a determined Seton Hill offense and lead Mansfield to a 3-1 victory over the PSAC West foe Tuesday evening at Spaulding Field.

Mansfield (5-9, 1-6 PSAC West) earns its first divisional win and is just two games out from earning a PSAC playoff berth.

Seton Hill (6-8, 2-5 PSAC West) took the early lead when Joanna Pichardo took Jannelle Hoefer's pass from the top of the circle and placed it into the left side of goal less than eight minutes into the game.

Senior midfielder Kristyn Grunza knotted the game at one score each in the 13th minute when she dribbled from the top of the circle into scoring position and beat the keeper on a crisp shot from five yards out. Grunza's goal was her seventh of the season.

In the 22nd minute, senior Alycia Pici played a ball off the goalie's pad and found the back of goal on a shot from 12 yards out to put the Mounties on top. Junior Taryn Schawillie made it a two-goal lead just before halftime, scoring from the top of the circle on a Brianna Velepec penalty corner pass.

Mansfield dominated the offensive possession in the first half while holding a 14-3 shot advantage and a 9-3 penalty corner advantage over Seton Hill.

After a flat opening period, the Griffin's offense came out with a vengeance in the second half putting the pressure on the Mountaineers.

However, Mansfield's defense didn't shy away as sophomore Jessi Swingle and junior Sarah Zwick each recorded defensive saves on consecutive shots by the Griffins to deny a score.

Twist recorded eight saves to blank Seton Hill in the second half. The senior finished the game with 10 saves, her second highest total of the season next to a 12-save outing against East Stroudsburg.

Seton Hill recorded 11 penalty corners in the second half to hold a 14-11 advantage in the game. Shots were tied at 15 each in the contest with the Griffins recording 12 in period two alone.

Senior Kristy Tutorow recorded six shots with four going on goal.

Seton Hill keeper Autumn Reid held the Mounties scoreless in the second half.

Mansfield will host Houghton College in non-conference action on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Spaulding Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
