MANSFIELD - Mansfield University head sprint football coach Graham Johnsen has announced the 2014 recruiting class.

"This recruiting class specifically addresses significant needs for our program," said Johnsen who enters his third season at the helm of the program. "Our coaching staff worked diligently to bring in this talented class. We are specifically pleased with the quality and depth we brought in on the offensive line and running back positions but make no mistake, we were also able to bring in high quality recruits at all position groups."

Thirty-nine student-athletes have committed to date to playing for Mansfield in the upcoming 2014 season.

The class includes players from five states with at least 25 recruits earning all-conference honors during their high school careers.

Mansfield enters its seventh year as a member of the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL), one of the most unique collegiate varsity football leagues in the country. In addition to Mansfield, the league is comprised of Army, Navy, Cornell, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Post and Franklin Pierce.

Mansfield, which drew more than 6,000 fans to the season opener against Princeton last season, returns 42 players from last year's roster including 22 who saw starting action sometime during the 2013 campaign.

"The nice part is that we have a solid corps of returners that will lead, guide and push our new additions," explained Johnsen. "This talented class will have newcomers vying for starting spots across the board. Our staff is excited and anticipates some great battles during our camp this fall."

Mansfield opens the 2014 season when the Mountaineers host the University of Pennsylvania on Sept. 20.
