Charles Becoats scored 21 points to lead five Mansfield players in double-figures as Mountaineers ran away from Bloomsburg 101-68 in the opening round of the PSAC playoffs Saturday night in Decker Gymnasium.

With the victory, Mansfield advances into the quarterfinal round and will travel to PSAC East Champion East Stroudsburg this Tuesday evening.

Despite a one hour delay to the start of the game because of a shattered backboard in pregame practice, Mansfield never trailed in the game taking a 20-9 lead on a Chuck Harper layup six minutes into the game and extending the advantage to 32-12 on a layup by Onyema Utti midway through the period.

Mansfield held a 53-35 lead at halftime and used a 15-3 run over the first four minutes of the second half to take an insurmountable 68-38 lead on a jumper by Joe Bell.

The Mountaineers connected on a season high 15 3-pointer in the game and held a 36-22 rebounding advantage.

Becoats hit 6-10 3-pointers on his way to his 21 points with Joe Bell adding 14 points and Chuck Harper and Onyema Utti adding 13 each. Tremaine Bowman came off the bench to score a season-high 11 points.

Nnamdi Njoku led Bloomsburg with a game-high 22 points.

The win was the Mountaineers first PSAC playoff victory in Decker Gymnasium since 95-90 win over Kutztown in 2005.
