Mansfield University's Brenae Edwards (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) and Jess Scordino (Endicott, N.Y./Owego Free) will take on the top athletes in the nation this weekend at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo. Edwards and Scordino each qualified the 5,000m and 10,000m runs at the championships.

The women's 10,000m race is scheduled to start at 8:10 p.m. Mountain time today while the 5,000m begins at 8:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 25.

In the 10,000m run, both Mountaineer athletes are in great position in the event seeding. Edwards enters the race with the second fastest time in the field at 34:51.66 which is just over a second shy of Augustana's Runa Falch at 34:50.41. Scordino's top time in the 10,000m is the seventh fastest mark in the nation at 35:04.48.

A total of 21 athletes make up the 10,000m field including six from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Edwards enters the 5,000m field with the eighth fastest time in the field at 16:45.34 while Scordino is 24th at 16:59.42. Alaska Anchorage's Ruth Keino holds the top time in the field at 16:20.87.

The Mountie duo is two of seven PSAC athletes that qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 24-person 5,000m field.

It marks the second trip to the Division II Outdoor Championships for Edwards and the first for Scordino. Edwards earned All-American honors in the 5,000m race after finishing fifth overall at the 2010 outdoor championships. She's also a two-time All-American in the indoor 5,000m, placing third in 2010 and seventh in 2011.

Although this marks Scordino's first trip to the outdoor championships, the junior is no stranger to the national stage. This past fall, Scordino earned All-American honors at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships with a 24th place finish.
