MANSFIELD - Senior Joe Candelmo threw a six-hit complete game to lead Mansfield to a 7-3 win over East Stroudsburg in the opening game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Shaute Field Friday afternoon.

East Stroudsburg rallied to edge Mansfield 3-2 in the nightcap,

In the opener, Mansfield took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Brandon Miller singled with two outs and scored on senior Joey Andrews' double down the right field line.

East Stroudsburg answered right back in the top of the second with three runs on an RBI single by Eric Forth and a two-run single by John Armbrust.

Mansfield retook the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Mitch Iseneker and Matt Fisher drew back-to-back walks and later scored off two East Stroudsburg errors. Seth Tressler singled-in the third run.

The Mountaineers added two more runs in the fifth when Andrews led off the inning with a single and went to second on a single by Iseneker. Matt Fisher singled to load the bases and Anthony Renz delivered a two-out single up the middle to drive in a pair of runs.

Mansfield got its final run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Andrews.

Candelmo was stellar after the second inning, retiring eight straight batters before allowing a two-out single in the fifth inning. He retired the side in order in the seventh to pick up his third win in five decisions this season.

Candelmo struck out four and walked none. The senior, who hasn't issued a walk in 40 innings of work this season, extended his school-record of consecutive innings without a walk to 45 dating back to last season.

Andrews went 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI's to lead the offense.

Brian Ernst went 3.2 innings to take the loss for East Stroudsburg.

The nightcap featured a pitching duel between the Mountaineer's Joel Worthington and East Stroudsburg's Ryan Lubreski.

Mansfield's Dylan Woodworth led off the bottom of the first with a home run over the right fence before ESU tied the score in the second on a two-out RBI triple by Chris Knott.

Neither team would score again until the bottom of the fifth when Renz reach on a leadoff error and moved to third on a single by Woodworth. Renz later scored when Tressler grounded into a double play for a 2-1 Mansfield lead.

East Stroudsburg tied the score in the top of the sixth after Mike Tenaglia delivered a two-out single to the left side to drive in the tying run.

Chris Knott led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run off Mansfield reliever Jeremy Mapstone.

Mansfield had a runner at second with one out in the sixth but couldn't score and East Stroudsburg's Lubreski retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win.

Woodworth went 2-4 including his second home run of the season to lead the offense. Worthington had his second straight strong outing scattering six hits with two strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Mansfield travel to East Stroudsburg for a doubleheader on Saturday.
