MU women fall at No. 2 Gannon
Jena Matter recorded her third double-double of the season and Maria Kelleher knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers, but No. 2 Gannon came away with a 91-65 win over visiting Mansfield to remain unbeaten Tuesday night in PSAC crossover play at the Hammermill Center.
Matter scored a game-high 16 points and 13 rebounds, including eight offensive boards, to lead the Mountaineers offensively. The senior forward had a career-best two treys in the game.
Kelleher connected on 5-of-9 3-point field goals on her way to a career-high 15 points on the night. The freshman is currently shooting 37.8 percent from beyond the arc this season and averages just under two treys a game.
Alyssa DeRichie, Katie Fitzpatrick and Megan McSwain all chipped in eight points for Mansfield (0-9, 0-4 PSAC East). DeRichie controlled much of the Mountaineer offense, dishing out a career-best eight assists.
Gannon (10-0, 4-0 PSAC West) was led by Nettie Blake's 16 points and seven boards. Morgan Neighbors came off the bench to put up 15 points with Brittany Batts hitting four treys for 12 points.
The Golden Knights connected on 54.7 percent (35-64) of field goals including 45.5 percent (10-22) of 3-pointers. Mansfield was held to just 33.8 percent (22-65) from the floor.
The Mountaineers took care of the ball, allowing a season-low 16 turnovers in the contest.
Mansfield completes the backend of its PSAC crossover trip and concludes a four-game road trip by taking on Clarion tomorrow at Tippin Gym.
