MU women fall to California
Jena Matter scored a game-high 21 points, but it wouldn't be enough as visiting Mansfield fell on the road to California (Pa.) 85-56 Wednesday night in the Mountaineers final PSAC crossover game of the season.
Matter connected on eight field goals and five free throws to record a season-best in scoring and her highest point total since putting up 22 against Roberts Wesleyan on Jan. 3, 2012. The senior also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Junior Megan McSwain hit double-figure scoring for the eighth time this season with 12 points on the night. Sophomore Katie Fitzpatrick was the third Mountaineer in double-figure scoring with 10 points.
California's (8-5, 2-2 PSAC West) Emma Mahady paced five Vulcans in double-digit scoring with her 19 points. Kaitlynn Fratz added 18 points with Elena Antonenko chipping in 13 points.
The Vulcans held a 44-29 rebounding advantage while scoring 11 second-chance points in the game.
Cal took advantage of the Mountaineer's 24 turnovers in the game scoring 21 points off giveaways.
The Mountaineers enter the heart of PSAC eastern division play when they host Millersville at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium on Saturday.
