MU women, men earns wins over Lock Haven
MANSFIELD - Mallory Hafer scored a game-high 19 and Mallory Moore had a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds to lead Mansfield to a 55-43 win over Lock Haven in a PSAC crossover contest Sunday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium.
Both teams struggled to put points on the board early with the score tied at just 7-7 midway through the first half. Mansfield trailed 15-14 with five minutes remaining in the half when freshman Julia Stevenson scored 10 straight points to give the Mountaineers a 26-16 halftime advantage.
Mansfield extended its lead to 29-16 on a 3-pointer by Meredith Hafer to start the second half but Lock Haven chipped away to cut the lead to 38-37 on a Casi Donelan layup with 4:12 to play.
A 3-pointer by Emma Lacey moments later and another 3-pointer by Mallory Hafer with just under three minutes to play gave Mansfield 46-39 advantage and the Mountaineers connected on 9-of-12 free throws in the final ninety seconds to preserve the win.
In addition to Hafer and Moore, Stevenson scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds in 12 minutes of play.
Kristen Kudrick led Lock Haven with 11 points.
The win avenges an early season 67-56 loss at Lock Haven and snapped a seven-game losing streak.
Mansfield travels to Clarion and Gannon this Saturday and Sunday.
Mansfield 77, Lock Haven 66
MANSFIELD - Yuseff Carr and Chris Pender combined for 35 points to help lead Mansfield to a 77-66 win over Lock Haven in a PSAC crossover contest Sunday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium.
Carr was unstoppable early scoring 14 of Mansfield's first 18 points in the first ten minutes of the game as the Mountaineers took a 33-30 halftime advantage.
Lock Haven held a 41-40 lead seven minutes into the second half when Mansfield went on a 11-0 run, keyed by pair of 3-pointers from Tony Fannick and another one by Donny Lyons, to take a 51-41 lead with 10 minutes to play.
Mansfield extended its lead to 67-52 with just over five minutes left before Lock Haven went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 67-62 with two and a half minutes to play.
Carr hit a layup with 1:21 left to put the lead back to 71-64 and the Mountaineers connected on four of five free throws over the final minute to ice the game.
Carr recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 rebounds in addition to his team-high 19 points while Pender scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Anthony Derrison come off the bench to score 14 points and Fannick added 12.
Dalexis Pena led Lock Haven (3-6) with a game-high 21 points. North Penn grad Jeff Everett played 12 minutes for the Golden Eagles, with a rebound, steal and assist in the game.
Mansfield travels to Clarion and Gannon this weekend.
