ND-Elmira swimmers compete at Binghamton
The Notre Dame Elmira team traveled to Binghamton on Oct. 10 to compete against the Patriot swim team of Binghamton High School. Notre Dame's Frances VanderMeer won the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle. Molly Craig won the 500 freestyle and took third in the 50 freestyle (27.33) shaving nearly a second of her previous best time. Catherine Craig won the 200 IM and took fourth in the 100 butterfly. Sofia Harris had two personal best times in the 200 freestyle (2:55.44) and 100 breaststroke (1:46.33). Dillan Leonard had a strong fifth place showing (3:06.54) in her first 200 IM of the year. Other notable finishes included Elmira's Taylor Buono, Arrica Senkow and Erin Murray who finished third in the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, and 100 backstroke, respectively. Notre Dame's 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay both finished second.
In the closest race of the night, Dillan Leonard of Notre Dame, Emily Keenan and Mekayla Beschorner of Binghamton, and Haleigh Kirk of Elmira competed in the 100 breastroke event. All swimmers turned together with 25 yards to go. Keenan held off an ever improving Leonard to win. Kirk and Beschorner came in just behind for third and fourth. Leonard recorded another personal best in the breaststroke (1:28.12), shaving a half second off her previous best time.
This Friday at 4:30 p.m., Notre Dame-Elmira travels to Corning High School for their final regular meet of the season.
