NEB wins Waverly rec league title
EAST WAVERLY, N.Y. - Northeast Bradford finished off an unbeaten season with a 12-2 five-inning win over Croft Lumber here Tuesday evening in the championship game of the inaugural season of the Waverly Summer Rec. Baseball League.
NEB was 5-0 in a season shortened by rain before its win in the title game.
Brian Horton pitched a complete-game three-hitter for NEB to pick up the win. He struck out 11.
Garrett Smith, David Ford, Nik Geiser led NEB at the plate with two hits apiece.
Croft Lumber took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run double by Dalton Loper to plate Alex Volpe and Dylan Cooney.
Loper's fourth-inning single was the only other hit in the game for Croft Lumber.
Athens 10, Towanda 9
ATHENS - Athens stayed alive in Majors baseball All-Star action as they defeated Towanda Tuesday.
Joseph Parshall had the big bat for Athens with three hits, including two home runs. He also had 13 strikeouts in his win on the mound.
Gary Raupers, Nate Kennedy and Ethan Witherman had two hits each with one double, Jordyn Pennison had an RBI double while Aric Westbrook and Aaron Kinney had one hit a piece.
For Towanda Devin Dunn had two hits, including an RBI double while Nate Shafer also had two hits. Skylar Allen added a double with Brett Crispell, Brayden Manchester and Dawson Manning also getting hits.
9 AND 10 BASEBALL
Athens 22, Susquehanna County 1
ATHENS - Athens belted out 17 hits in their win in the John Shaw Tournament Tuesday.
Kuyler Setzer went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, Dylan Merritt went 3-for-3 with three runs, Ben Vough was 3-for-3 with three runs to lead Athens and Jared Peterson went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Karter Rude, Nate Gorsline, Griffen Stein, JJ Babcock, Carter Jones and JR Lynch also had hits with Jones' a double.
Rude scored twice while Gorsline, Stein, Babcock, Jones, Jason Pennison, Kuyler Murrelle and Lynch also scored.
Stein started and pitched the first two innings with four strikeouts while Merritt pitched the next two with four strikeouts as well.
RTL 8, Sayre 3
SAYRE - RTL picked up a Junior Baseball All-Star win Tuesday.
Eli Bennett had three hits to lead RTL while Patrick Salsman added two doubles. John Morrison and Hunter Brewer had two hits each while Trace Lane and Holden Hitchcock each added a double.
Hitchcock, Chandler Brown and Morrison combined for 13 strikeouts on the mound.
For Sayre Sam Wheeler had three hits while Jordan Rockwell and Conner Hanafin had two hits each. Jake Goodrich added a hit as well.
Wheeler, Hanafin and Goodrich combined for three strikeouts on the mound.
Athens 15, Towanda 1
Athens got combined no-hitter from their three pitchers to pick up the Junior Baseball win Tuesday.
Cody Jennings went the first three innings and earns the win, striking out three. Matt Collins went one inning with three strikeouts while Luke Newman went the final inning with two strikeouts.
Matt Felt had two hits and three runs for Athens, Newman had three hits, including a double, while Jennings had one hit and three runs.
Lars Thomason earns the loss for Towanda, going four innings with four strikeouts.
Luke Tama scored the lone Towanda run.
Towanda will take on RTL at Laceyville today.
