North Penn had a happy homecoming as they beat Cowanesque Valley 34-8 in NTL football action Friday.

"It was a team effort," North Penn coach Tom Dickinson said. "We got a little running game going, got to be happy with that."

In the first quarter Panther Bryce Zaparzynski got things started with a 70 yard punt return to paydirt.

"The punt return was big," Dickinson said. "We held them the first series then Bryce Zaparzynski, nobody touched him, great blocking."

Sam Rotella added the extra point and North Penn led 7-0 with 8:19 left in the opening quarter.

At the 6:47 mark Derek Bird punched one in from two yards to put the Panthers up 14-0 after the Rotella kick.

Then late in the second quarter Taylor Hillson found Bird for a 10-yard touchdown pass play. The two point conversion failed but North Penn led 20-0 going into the half.

In the third quarter Hillson scored again, this time using his legs on a 12-yard rushing touchdown. Hillson then hit Caleb Potter for the two-point conversion to put North Penn up 28-0. At the 2:15 mark Bird ran 19 yards to paydirt. The two-point conversion failed but North Penn led 34-0.

The Indians ruined the shutout in the fourth as with 7:17 left in the game Brandon Whitsell punched one in from a yard out. Whitsell also rushed in the two point conversion to make it a 34-8 final.

CV out gained North Penn 269 yards to 233 but also had more penalties, with seven for 50 yards while North Penn was flagged twice for 20 yards.

CV also had four turnovers to North Penn's two.

Hillson was 10-for-22 for 130 yards for the Panthers with a pick. He also had 31 yards rushing on five carries.

Bird led the Panthers on the ground, running for 46 yards on six carries.

Through the air Zaparzynski was Hillson's top target with three catches for 48 yards while Lucas Groover had three catches for 31 yards. Potter caught two passes for 36 yards as well.

CV was led by Shea Daley's 101 yards rushing on 19 carries while Whitsell had 56 yards on the ground, also with 19 carries.

Through the air Whitsell was 9-for-24 for 106 yards with two picks.

Frank Gardner was his top target with three catches for 31 yards. Daley had two catches for 24, Ryan Freeman snagged two catches for 27 and Ethan Meade added two catches for 24 yards.

North Penn will face Wyalusing next week.

"One game at a time," Dickinson said. "Now it's Wyalusing we've got to focus on."
