North Penn used a 24-3 third quarter run to pull away from Canton in the opening round of their Holiday Tournament in girl's basketball action Thursday, 61-31.

The Warriors hung tough in the first half, down just 31-21 at the break before the Panthers big third quarter push.

Mariah Berguson led North Penn with 17 points while Kaitlyn Garverick added 14. Whitney Holdren was also in double figures with 11 while Cassie Frederick netted seven and Britta Berguson and Kirsten Berguson added six each to round out the Panther scoring.

Makenzy Route led Canton with 18 points while Chelsey Heatley added seven and Megan Meyer netted six.

North Penn will face Blairsville in the championship game at 6 p.m. on Saturday while Canton takes on Liberty in the consolation at 3 p.m.

Blairsville 80, Liberty 15

Blairsville jumped out to a 37-0 first quarter lead en route to the win in the North Penn/Kiwanis Holiday Tournament girl's bracket Thursday.

Kelsey Harer led Liberty with six points while Nicole Black added four. Chelsea Repard added three while Desiree McGovern netted two.

Laurel O'Barto led Blairsville with 19 points while Mackenzie Livingston netted 18.

Liberty will take on Canton in the consolation game at 3 p.m. on Saturday while Blairsville will face North Penn in the championship game slated for a 6 p.m. start.

Montoursville Tournament

Boys

Wellsboro 60, Montoursville 52

The Green Hornets remained undefeated as they won their tournament opener Thursday.

Wellsboro held a 28-27 lead at the half, then out scored Montoursville 32-25 in the second half to seal the win.

Jordan Jackson had 14 points to lead the way for the Hornets while Mike Pietropola (12 points) and Joe Doganiero (11) were also in double figures.

Matt Reese and Dylan Prough had nine points each while Kieron Smethers netted five.

Pierce Ranck led Montoursville with 20 points while Jalile Best added 14.

The Hornets will take on Lewisburg in the tournament championship.

Girls

Williamsport 42, Wellsboro 40

Wellsboro got 19 from Mackenzie Marple and 11 from Sarah Ingerick, but fell just short in the opening round of the Montoursville Tournament.

Kim Acorn had five in the game for Wellsboro and Hannah Zuchowski had four, while Jesse Catherman finished with one point.

Aisha Evans led Williamsport with 16.

Montoursville 56, Troy 19

Troy was outscored 32-9 in the second half of the loss on Thursday.

Vanessa Benson led Troy with 10 and Brooke Mattocks had four points.

Faith Ceely and Kelsey Bristol had two points each for Troy and Taylor Johnston had one point.

Johnston had five boards, Brooke Losey-Root had four and Faith Ceely had three rebounds.

Kristen O'Malley led Montoursville with 19.

Troy takes on Wellsboro at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

NONLEAGUE

Southern Columbia 54, Sullivan County 18

Addie Jordan led Sullivan with five and Kelly Kramer had four in the game.

Cortney Rupert finished with three points and Kayla Rosbach, Mackenna Bagley and Crystal Riebe had two points each for the Griffins.

Mackenzie Clark had 20 for Southern Columbia.

Southern won the JV game 41-13.
