NRCS boys, girls come in second at Central Baptist Tournament
The NRCS boys and girls teams came in second at the Central Baptist basketball tournament Saturday.
The boys fell to Freedom Village 64-41.
Nathan Helmuth led NRCS with 16 points while Ben Haefka added 12 points and five rebounds. Riley Gorsline scored five, Johnny Mosier had four while Kyle Bert and Nathan Romanauski had two points a piece.
Bert also added five boards.
Titus Geday led four Freedom Village players in double figures with 16 points.
NRCS girls lost 25-22 despite a strong defensive effort.
North Rome had 24 steals in the game and held Central to just two points in the first quarter but were unable to get their own offense going.
NRCS led 8-2 after the first quarter but went scoreless in the second as Central tied it up at 8-all at the half.
In third quarter Central's Kayla Krewson got hot, scoring eight of her team's 10 points to put Central up 18-13.
NRCS tried to rally in the final frame, out scoring Central 9-7, but couldn't get over the hump.
Larissa Alteri had six points to lead North Rome while Olivia Noone added four points, 12 boards and seven steals.
C.J. Miller had three points and six steals while Cali Jennings added three points and seven steals. Leah Helmuth, Kendra Brown and Emily Mosher had two points a piece to round out the scoring.
Krewson led Central with 12 points.
North Rome had six All-Stars named. For the girls Alteri and Noone made the team, for the boys it was Haefka and Helmuth and for cheerleading it was Summer Correll and Alicia Lykens.
NRCS travels to Clarks Summit on Tuesday to face off with Summit Christian Academy with play to begin at 4 p.m. with JV boys.
