Pane adjusting to college track
A year ago Kyle Pane was one of the fastest in the state.
At Athens he was a dominant hurdler and a key member of the Wildcats relay teams.
Fast forward one year and Pane is a freshman at Lock Haven University and now everything is different.
"It's a lot, lot different," he said. "It's really tough, everyone is pretty quick here.
"It's definitely a lot different. There is a lot more competition. I have to get used to it."
For Pane it's a big adjustment going from the king of the hill, to being a freshman again.
"It's a big difference," he said. "It's nice being the top runner when you are a senior. It kind of sucks to go back to the bottom and start over."
Last week Pane hit the track at Bucknell running the open 400, which was a big change for him.
"It' was my first 400 race I have run indoors," he said. "I am hoping to just keep getting better and get better times."
One of the challenges right now is getting used to running indoors.
"It's different," Pane said. "You have to get used to it. The track is so much smaller indoors. It's different to get used to."
One of the things that has helped Pane this year is having teammates who have helped to push him and make him better.
"For the most part everyone helps a lot," Pane said. "It really makes things easier."
A district champion hurdler in high school, that event is taking some getting used to at the college level.
"The hurdlers are a lot tougher here," he said. "They are higher. I am trying to learn to run these."
While there are plenty of challenges in college and the competition is a lot tougher, it's something that Pane is enjoying.
"It's a lot more competition and you have to get used to it," Pane said. "It's a lot different, but it's nice to have people to push you."
