CANTON - The Rams clinched the NTL Large School wrestling title with a 49-17 win over Canton Tuesday.

"We were a little concerned after coming off an emotional high on Saturday winning the district championship then wrestling Canton who has a good, solid team," explained Wyalusing coach Gary Haley. "I was a little concerned with how the kids would do but they got focused and were ready to go."

This is a big feat for the Rams.

"The NTL is always tough in wrestling," explained Haley. "Of course you have Towanda and Troy and other teams that are competitive. Winning the NTL is always difficult to do. It feels real good to wrap up the NTL."

Wyalusing got falls from Ryan Hart over Darren Killian in 5:50 at 132, Tim Kuntz over Travis Butcher in 1:55 at 138, Tyler Thompson over Spencer Castle in 3:06 at 152 and Anthony Clark pinned Canton's Connor Route in 1:44 at 195.

Scoring forfeits for the Rams were Dylan Otis (220) and Clayton Force (285).

At 145, Wyalusing's Joe Champluvier scored a 17-9 major decision over Canton's Jacob Butcher, at 120 Ram Justin Haley had a 13-6 decision over Zach Pettigrew, at 160, Ram Tyler Fenton scored a 6-5 decision over Canton's Ben Pepper and at 170 Wyalusing's Dan Frankenfield earned a 5-4 decision over Canton's Tyler Cole.

The Warriors had a fall by Dylan Marbaker over Wyalusing's Austin Shaeffer in 3:19 at 106 while at 182 Garrett Wesneski earned a 9-0 major decision over Ram Justin Griffith. Brooks Gleckner also had a major decision 10-1 over Ram Ryan Force at 126.

Canton also got a decision of Dan Killian edging Brandon Kelley 2-0 at 11.

Wyalusing will travel to the PIAA Duals this Thursday at 4 p.m. as they face West Branch.

The Rams believe they are peaking at the right time.

"We told the kids for the last three weeks of the season going back to the Troy match we've been wrestling as good as we can," said Haley. "I feel real good going into states and we hope to continue wrestling well and bring home a state medal."
