Sayre boys down Blue Ridge
SAYRE - The Sayre Redskins got 23 points from Nate Williams and 16 from Seth Murrelle as they picked up a 47-40 victory over Blue Ridge on Friday.
A 19-point second quarter gave Blue Ridge a 25-23 lead at the half, but Sayre outscored Blue Ridge 11-4 in the fourth to get the win.
Adam Wampole had three points and Marshall Higley had two, while Gabe Nobles, Jeremy Kyc and Walter Wampole had one point each in the game.
Murrelle had five assists and four steals and Williams had three assists and three steals, while Kyc had nine rebounds.
Walter Wampole had seven boards and Joey Galizia had one blocked shot in the game.
Blue Ridge won the JV game 51-45.
St. John Neumann 63, North Penn 45
Despite a furious fourth quarter comeback attempt, the Panthers couldn't dig out of an early hole as they opened up their boys' basketball season with a loss Saturday.
Neumann led 50-26 after three quarters before North Penn out scored the Eagles 19-3 in the fourth quarter.
Cody Crum led the Panthers with 10 points while Brad Brubaker had eight points and eight boards. Dan Prouty scored seven while Dayton Wood and Dylan Rudinski had four points each.
Brandon Carlsen and Jordan Orantes scored three points a piece while Nick Mahonski, Andrew Craig and Ryan Bogaczyk rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Kaynen Arredondo had eight rebounds for North Penn, too.
Hazell Johnson led Neumann with 21 points while Jordan Cole (13 points) and Noah Bieter (12) also scored in double figures.
North Penn won the JV game 41-30 behind 10 points from Crum.
The Panthers travel to Northeast Bradford on Wednesday.
