Sayre jumps out early, holds on to beat Mansfield
SAYRE - Sayre jumped out to a 17-3 first quarter lead as they held on to beat Mansfield 57-45 in NTL boys' Division II basketball action Friday.
Down 31-14 at the half, the Tigers out scored them 31-26 in the second half but couldn't get over the hump.
Seth Murrelle led the Redskins with 21 points, six assists and four steals while Nick Sweet added 14. Marshall Higley netted eight, Marshall Felt scored six, Marcos Velazquez netted four while Cuyler Kochin and Joey Galizia had two points a piece.
Kochin added 10 rebounds.
Bo Burleigh led Mansfield with 17 points, 10 boards, two assists and two steals while Ryan Campbell added eight points.
JP Shaw had six points and six boards while Chandler Correll had six points, three boards and two assists.
Brock Burleigh and Jordan Williams had three points each while Jarrod Burd had two points, two boards and four assists.
Mansfield won the JV game 43-41 behind 19 from Jordan Williams.
The Tigers host Canton Tuesday.
Wellsboro 56, Athens 43
The Hornets got 24 points from Michael Pietropola, including four threes, as they pulled away from the Wildcats in NTL Division I boys' basketball action Friday.
Wellsboro led 11-6 after the first quarter but Athens rallied in the second, cutting it to 23-22 at the half. The Hornets again pulled out ahead after the third, up 40-34, then scored 16 fourth quarter points to secure the win.
Joey Doganeiro added 14 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, while Dawson Prough, Dylan Prough and Kieron Smethers added six points each.
Dan Moyer led Athens with 17 points while Brandon Fauver added 11. Ryan Segar scored nine, Joe Moyer added four and Jarett Priester netted two.
Troy 72, Wyalusing 55
The Trojans jumped out to a 17-4 first quarter lead in their NTL Division I boys' basketball win Friday.
Jed Wright had 23 points to lead the Trojans while Brandon Mattocks added 16 and Evan Polly had 14.
Gage Burns added eight, Ryan Reeves scored four while Thomas Swain, Jared Murray and Alex Butcher had two points each.
Cody Pickett led the Rams with 20 points while Ridge Williams added nine.
Matt Woodruff added seven, Terron Millard scored five, Devin Carr had four, Zamien Benditt-Parkes netted three, Keshon Gardner, Collin Fassett and Dylan Bulick had two points a piece while Dalton McCullough and Jordan Schools had one point each.
Northeast Bradford 53, Canton 52
The Panthers broke a 3-year losing streak with their NTL Division I boys' basketball win Friday.
They led 19-16 at the half but Canton out scored them 19-15 in the third quarter to take a 35-34 lead going into the final frame.
NEB would out score Canton 19-17 to earn the win.
Jordan Goodwin had 16 points to lead the Panthers while Levi Upham added 10 points and four steals. Elijah Arias had 11 points, Garret Smith scored nine, Nick Geiser added five while Andy Seeley chipped in with two.
Smith also had six assists.
Jesse Lattimer scored 23 to lead Canton while Mason Moore added 16. Tim Bassett netted eight, Tre Sawtell scored four with Kerry Moon adding one.
NEB won the JV game 50-17 behind 15 points from Tommy Rought. Jeremiah McClinton led Canton with nine.
Northeast will travel to Liberty Tuesday.
Towanda 71, St. Joseph's Prep 45
The Black Knights jumped out to a 29-8 first quarter lead en route to the non-league boys' basketball win Friday.
Dave Rodenhizer had 20 points and five boards to lead Towanda while Noah Huff added 18 points and three assists.
Noah Wheeler had 11 points, five steals and three assists while Lij Griffin netted 10 points.
Brad Sparbanie chipped in with five, Tristan James, Dan Fetterman and Garrett Mosier had two points each with Dylan Bates adding one.
Nick Place had five boards in the win.
Stephen Beattie led St. Joseph's with nine points.
Sullivan County 58, Montgomery 41
The Griffins used a big second quarter to pull away from the Red Raiders in Heartland Conference boys' basketball action Friday.
Sullivan held a narrow 15-13 lead after the first quarter, then pushed it to 33-24 at the half. From there they out scored Montgomery 25-19.
Adam Szklanka led Sullivan with 16 points and 12 boards while Conner Wylie had 18 points, eight boards and three assists.
Sean Flannery added 13 points and seven assists, Bob Polcrack netted four points, Jordan Beinlich and Miguel Rodriguez had three points each while Bobby Frank added one.
Montgomery won the JV game 35-33 as Rodriguez had 13 to lead the Griffins.
Sullivan is at Bloomsburg Tuesday.
Notre Dame 76, Tioga 22
The Crusaders hit 12 threes as they picked up the IAC boys' basketball win Friday.
Jonas McCaig led Notre Dame with 19 points, including six threes, while Darius Garvin added 17 points, eight steals, three assists and one block.
Tom Agan had 14 points, eight boards and four blocks in limited time while Hunter Thomas had 10 points, six assists, two steals and four boards.
Nate Niles added eight points, Parker May scored six while Derrick Marshall had two points and seven rebounds.
John Dougherty led Tioga with 11 points while Adam Zwierlein had six. Josh Kithcart added three with Dylan Babcock scoring two.
Notre Dame won the JV game.
The Crusaders host Waverly on Tuesday.
North Penn 74, Liberty 69
In a game of runs it was the Panthers pulling out the NTL Division II boys' basketball win Friday.
North Penn led 20-12 after the opening tip but Liberty kept it close in the second, down just 37-30 at the half. The Panthers ran out again, out scoring the Mountaineers 23-15 to take a 60-45 lead into the final frame.
Liberty had a big run in the fourth, out scoring North Penn 24-14 but couldn't get over the hump.
Cody Crum led North Penn with 17 points while Dayton Wood added 14 and Levi Christman scored 12. Brad Brubaker added eight, Kaynen Arredondo and Terry Clark scored seven, Dylan Rudinski netted six and Ryan Bogaczyk added three.
Dalton Litzelman led Liberty with 19 points while JJ Walker and Cody Fritz had 12 a piece with Cody Schmouder scoring 11. Dillon Ford netted eight and Kenny Kreger scored five.
