Skerpon leads PSU over Bucknell
The Penn State Nittany Lions picked up their eighth and ninth wins of the season on Saturday by taking both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Bucknell. The Blue and White won game one by a final of 7-2 and defeated the Bison in the second matchup 4-3
The two wins give the Nittany Lions a current winning streak of four games, the longest the program has had since May of 2012. The victories also stretch Penn State's head-to-head winning streak against Bucknell to 21-straight games. PSU also claimed both wins in a doubleheader on Saturday for the first time since it did it on March 28, 2012, taking two games against Coppin State at home.
Sayre graduate Taylor Skerpon had three hits in game one. The junior singled three times and drove in a run. Skerpon also swiped a bag on the basepath for his team-leading eighth of the season. In the second game Skerpon had an RBI.
Notre Dame graduate Becca Saggiomo, of Athens, hit her first career home run for Niagara on Saturday.
The sophomore hit a home run in game one for Niagara against Akron. Niagara lost both games of a doubleheader with Akron.
Wilkes and Delaware Valley split a pair of games in Freedom Conference play Saturday afternoon. Delaware Valley won game one 3-1 with Wilkes taking the second game 6-5.
Wilkes picks up their first win of the season improving to (1-7, 1-3) while Delaware Valley stands at (2-8, 1-1).
Northeast Bradford graduate Haylie Phillips got the win in the second game, striking out three, walking three and allowing six hits and five runs to pick up the in a complete game effort.
Phillips also had a hit and a run scored at the plate.
REESE LEADS WILKES
Wilkes University junior Stephen Ruch went 5-for-8 with five runs batted in to lead the Colonels to a Freedom Conference sweep of Delaware Valley College on Saturday afternoon at Artillery Park. Wilkes took game one 10-2 before posting a 6-4 victory in the second game of the twin bill.
Wellsboro grad Matt Reese had two hits and a run scored in game one and a hit and two runs scored in game two.
Wilkes moves to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in league play following the sweep. DVC drops to 6-6 overall, 0-4 in Freedom games.
