The Southern Tier Smoke 16U softball team went 5-0, including a come-from-behind win in the title game, to win the championship at the Fury Home Run Blast for Hunger 2013 Tournament here over the weekend.

The Elmira Heights-based travel team features five players - Stephanie Bellis, Kiana Manuel, Sam Mennig, Becca Morgan and Megan Wilbur - from Waverly.

Souther Tier Smoke 10, Home Run Softball 1

Kiana Manuel and Becca Morgan led the Smoke at the plate and Sam Mennig picked up the win in a 10-1 decision over Home Run Softball in the opening game of pool play.

Manuel, who had a double, and Morgan each had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI, while Manuel stole four bases in the win and Morgan had one.

Hayley McCracken also had two hits two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base for the winners, while Emily Knowlden doubled and singled, stole a base and knocked in two runs in the winners and Megan Wilbur scored a run and had an RBI.

Mennig allowed one run on four hits, while striking out seven and walking two in five innings of work to record the win.

Southern Tier Smoke 9, Fury 0

Stephanie Bellis and Sam Mennig led the Smoke at the plate and Emily Crowell was stellar in the pitcher's circle in a 9-0 win over the Norwich-based Fury to improve to 2-0 in pool play.

Bellis doubled and singled, knocked in three runs and scored a run, while Mennig tripled and singled, scored three runs, stole two bases and knocked in a run for the Smoke in their eight-hit attack.

Danni Callear doubled and singled, scored a run and had an RBI for the winners, while Manuel and Wilbur each stole a base and scored a run.

Crowell struck out six and walked one, while pitching a two-hit shutout to pick up the win.

Southern Tier Smoke 12, CNY Monsters 0, 4 innings

Sam Mennig tossed a three-hitter and the Smoke pounded out 12 hits in a 12-0 four-inning win over the CNY Monsters of Syracuse in the pool play finale.

Mennig had two hits and two RBI to aid her own cause and Kiana Manuel doubled and singled, stole a base, scored a run and knocked in a run to lead the Smoke at the plate, while Danni Callear had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI, Emily Knowlden had two hits and a run scored and Alle Jamison had two hits and a run scored.

Megan Wilbur added a hit, a run scored, a stolen base and two RBI for the winners, while Stephanie Bellis doubled, scored a run and knocked in a run and Becca Morgan scored a run.

Mennig struck out two and walked one in picking up the win.

SEMIFINALS

Southern Tier Smoke 14, CNY Monsters 2, 4 innings

After a receiving a bye into the semifinals, the top-seeded Smoke finished off the CNY Monsters with an eight-run fourth-inning rally in a 14-2 win Sunday afternoon.

Kiana Manuel tripled and singled and scored two runs and Stephanie Bellis had two hits, including a double, and two RBI to lead the Smoke at the plate, while Mennig had one hit, scored three runs and drove in three runs.

Danni Callear doubled and singled, scored twice and had two RBI and Emily Knowlden had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the winners, while Becca Morgan had one hit, a run scored and two RBI. Rachael Sutryk had a hit, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Emily Crowell picked up the win. She allowed two runs on six hits, while walking two.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Southern Tier Smoke 6, Eyota 5

Stephanie Bellis stroked a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a three-run rally as the Smoke won the title with a 6-5 win over Owego-based Eyota Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 5-3, Kiana Manuel and Rachael Sutryk opened the inning with back-to-back singles.

Emily Knowlden then ripped a two-run double to left field to tie the game. She scored when Bellis lace a line-drive single to left field.

Manuel led the Smoke at the plate with three hits and two runs scored, while Bellis had two hits and two RBI and Sam Mennig and Megan Wilbur contributed two hits apiece in the 12-hit attack.

Mennig picked up her third win of the tournament, allowing five runs - two earned - on nine hits, while striking out one and walking one.

NOTES: The Smoke are coached by Waverly grad Al Englebert, as well as Mike Jaminson and Rick Wilbur. … The Smoke committed just one error in five games (75 defensive chances) … Kiana Manuel led the Smoke with nine hits and eight runs scored in the tournament, while Emily Knowlden had eight hits and Sam Mennig, Stephanie Bellis and Danni Callear had seven hits apiece. Bellis had a team-high eight RBI in the tournament, while Callear had seven and Mennig added six. Knowlden led the Smoke with five extra-base hits, including four doubles, and Manuel rapped out a pair of doubles and a pair of triples.
