LAPORTE - The Griffins swept the the boys and girls races at their annual homecoming race Saturday.

The boys edged Troy 23-32 and beat Hughesville 15-50 while Troy beat the Spartans 15-50 as well.

On the girl's side Sullivan beat Troy and Hughesville 15-50.

Griffin Kelby Mullen won the boy's race in 19:46 while Troy's Ethan Calkins edged out Hughesville's Jay Hiller for second. Both had a time of 21:05.

Sullivan took the next three spots with Lucas Hatton (21:21), Jordan Beinlich (21:27) and Bob Polcrack (21:29). Hughesville's Bryce Gavitt was seventh in 21:45, Troy's Jordan Grimes was eight in 21:46 followed by teammates Robin Vanhoutte (22:44) and Lucas Nichols (23:37).

Hughesville's Hannah Merrifield won the girl's race in 24:21 followed by four Giffins. Bridget Paonessa (26:48) was second, Alexis Kiess (26:51) was third, Bethany Lambert (29:36) was fourth and Mackenzie Doyle (30:24) was fifth.

Troy's Alaina Swain (30:26) was sixth and Emma Simpson (30:260 took seventh. Sullivan rounded out the top 10 with Olivia Morgan (31:24), Sierra Karge (34:26) and Crystal Riebe (35:49).

In Junior High action Sullivan County sent their runners to the Lewisburg Classic.

The boys took third overall led by Taylor Baldwin in fourth and Liam Molyneux in sixth. Also for Sullivan Jimmy McCamley was 19th, Jordan Pedro took 25th and Jonathan Pedro was 28th.

The girls were 11th led by Maddy Fritsch in 72nd. Also for the Griffins Danielle Reeser was 76th, Emily Wettlaufer was 116th, Ariel Leahy took 123rd and Kyleigh Ammerman finished 127th.


The Waverly boys were fifth at the Stock-Conwicke Invitational Saturday.

They scored 131 points while Corning won with 63.

Randy Chandler and Collin Traub led the Wolverines with Chandler (19:16) 14th and Traub (19:17) 15th.

Also for Waverly Mark Kraus (19:37) was 22nd, Garrett Sutryk (20:32) was 32nd, Brian Schlicher (21:23) was 48th, Alex Uhl (22:14) was 52nd and Rich Northrop (23:41) was 59th.

The girls finished sixth overall with 122 points. Vestal won with 82.

Kaylee Uhl led the way for the Wolverines, taking fifth in 22:14.

Also for Waverly Kelsey Frank (23:43) was 16th, Katelyn Moore (24:12) was 21st, Audri Frisbie (26:33) was 36th, Taylor Knight (29:06) was 44th, Sidney Shaffer (29:06) was 45th and Kalie Herriman (30:57) was 47th.

Waverly will be at the Divisional Championship in Newark Valley on Tuesday.
