Sullivan County tops Muncy, NRCS falls to Ross Corners
Sullivan County held on to beat Muncy 53-47 in Heartland Conference boy's basketball action Saturday.
After a close first quarter Sullivan broke the game open with a 22 point second quarter to take a 32-20 lead at the half. Muncy fourth back in the third, cutting the deficit to 41-40 going into the fourth quarter.
Sullivan out scored Muncy 12-7 in the final period for the win.
Derek Wilkins had a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards to lead the Griffins while Kelby Mullen added 14 points and six assists. Conner Wylie had 12 points and seven rebounds, Zach Meyer and Bob Polcrack had three points each while Lucas Hatton added two.
Muncy won the JV game 40-25 as Adam Szklanka had 12 for the Griffins.
Sullivan travels to Bloomsburg Tuesday.
Ross Corners 63, North Rome 47
North Rome lost a well fought game against RCCA last night.
It was a physical game in which both teams were getting into foul trouble early and often. The first period saw the score all notched up at 10 points. A back and forth second period saw RCCA hit a shot at the half-time buzzer to sqeak out a 26-25 advantage.
In the third period North Rome came out flat enabling the Rams to open up a 48-38 lead as Matt Wood would score 12 of his game-high 24 points in the frame. In the fourth the Eagles were able to get within five points with 4:58 left as Ben Haefka hit a lay-up to make it 50-45. That would be as close as those Eagles would get as FTs and two uncontested lay-ups broke the game open in the closing minutes for the Rams.
Nick Stanton would be high scorer for the Eagles with 21 points while also finishing with six steals, four assists, three blocks and two rebounds.
Haefka would have a solid game finishing with a double-double by collecting 14 points and 10 boards.
Stanton was recognized before the game for joining the 1000 point and 500 rebound club.
The Eagles are now 6-6 on the season and host Damascus on Tuesday.
NRCS 51, Triboro 13
The Eagles jumped out to a 19-2 advantage in the first period and never looked back as they took a easy win from Triboro Christian.
Nathan Helmuth and Nick Stanton hit double figures in scoring with 12 and 10 points respectively. They both had six steals as well in the contest.
Also for NRCS, Ben Haefka and Johnny Mosier netted six and five points respectively while they both finished with six rebounds too.
