Sullivan falls to Muncy in OT; Towanda, Athens, Sayre pick up wins
A last-second field goal by Muncy gave them a 59-57 overtime win over Sullivan County in Heartland Conference boys' basketball action Wednesday.
Muncy's Rihad Sabaonovic drove to the lane and found a teammate on the weakside block for two in the closing seconds of overtime to secure the win.
Muncy held a narrow 25-23 lead at the half, but a 15-10 run by Sullivan in the third gave them a 38-35 lead going into the final quarter.
With both teams tied, Sullivan had a shot to win it but the three pointer was no good and the game went into overtime.
Zach Meyer led Sullivan with 18 points, including six threes, while adding seven rebounds and five assists.
Sharif Welton had 16 points while Derek Wilkins was in double figures with 13. Conner Wylie added eight points and 10 boards with Kelby Mullen and Dalton Molyneux scoring one point apiece.
Doug Zehner led Muncy with 25 while Sabanovic added 16.
The loss keeps Sullivan County in second for their division along with South Williamsport. Bloomsburg has a two game lead in first.
Muncy won the JV game 45-37. Adam Dzklanka led Sullivan with 18.
The Griffins will host Millville Saturday.
Towanda 73, Troy 43
TOWANDA - The Black Knights jumped out to a 45-19 lead at the half en route to the NTL East boys' basketball win Wednesday.
Casey Huff led Towanda with 23 points and four steals while Noah Huff and Mason Roof had 12 points each. Robbie Abrams added eight points.
Dave Rodenhizer had seven points and six boards for the Knights while Brad Sparbanie added three. Nolyn Chaffee, Brandon Dinelli, Jake Serrano-McEwen and Joel Miller had two points a piece. Miller added seven boards while Chaffe had five. Garret Mosier also had six rebounds for the Knights.
Jed Wright had 17 to lead Troy while Evan Polly added 14. Chad Cole netted seven, Ryan Reeves scored four while Thomas Swain added one.
Towanda won the JV game 52-32 behind 18 from Tristan James while Noah Wheeler added 11.
The Knights will host Wyalusing Friday.
Athens 68, Canton 41
The Wildcats broke open a close game in the second for the NTL East boys' basketball win Wednesday.
Athens held a 15-10 lead after one but out scored Canton 17-5 in the second quarter to secure the win.
Mark Wright led the Wildcats with 22 points, six boards and five assists while Garret Clark added nine points, eight boards and five assists.
Craig Moore had nine points with five boards, Ray McDougan had eight points with two steals, Adam McCauley added five points while Luke Wright and Curt Moore had four points each. Luke Wright also had four assists while Curt Moore added five boards.
Robert Fauver had two threes for six points with Jon Canfield adding one.
Wes Moore led Canton with 11 points while Eddie Larcom and Ryan Ball had eight points each. Tim Bassett scored six, Emmett Watson added five while Jesse Lattimer netted three.
Athens won the JV game 69-39 with 21 from Dan Moyer and 16 from Brandon Fauver.
The Wildcats travel to Northeast Bradford Friday.
Sayre 69, Northeast Bradford 24
The Redskins got 17 points and six steals from Trey Hildebrandt in their NTL East boys' basketball win Wednesday.
Nate Williams added 14 points and four assists while Riley Card had 10 points, four boards and four assists.
Alex Lyons added eight points and four assists, Adam Wampole scored five while Jared Donovan had four points and seven rebounds.
Tyler Williams and Walter Wampole had three points each, Brad Felt and John Shaw had two a piece while Joe Galizia notched one.
Tod Bonin led Northeast with 11 points while Davis Young added seven. Shawn Hakes had four with Jake Hottle scoring two.
