Three new winners grace Victory Lane
Friday night was a beautiful night for racing and found a packed Dunn Hill 2 with all the fans wondering who would make it to the winners circle for G-n-S Trucking sponsored event. There was a 30-lap $500 to win feature event for the Street Stock class along with a regular show. Sixty-five race teams filled the pit area all anticipating the evening race festivities.
Mini Stocks were the first event on the program. Ryan Bennett and Doug Colton brought the field to the green. Bennett grabbed the lead holding off Doug and Tyler Belcher. Belcher took the lead until lap three when JR Bush took it away. Bush held on until lap 10 when he and Eric Ellsworth were involved in an altercation. Both drivers went to the rear. On the restart it was Mike Koser who took over the top spot. He was battling with Shane Brown and Josh Hall. Coming from the rear was JR Bush and he caught a lucky break when a caution came out bunching up the field. JR did all he could to get around the Koser machine, but Mike held him off to be the first new winner of the night. Rounding out the top five were JR Bush, Shane Brown, Tyler Belcher and Eric Ellsworth. Doug Colton had come across the finish line in fifth, but during a post race inspection was disqualified.
The popular Front Wheel Drive class made their way onto the racing surface. It was a ladies front row as Donna Belcher and Karlie McKernan set the pace. Karlie grabbed the lead away from qualifying race winner Donna Belcher. She held on until Travis Forrest acquired it for just one lap. Ardy Dorman came from the 12th starting position and grabbed the lead on lap four. Ardy opened up a sizeable lead as the rest of the field jockeyed for position. The feature only had one caution and this allowed Dorman to hold on to be the second new winner of the evening. Finishing behind Ardy was Mike Ely, Guy Raymond Jr., Ray Greene Jr., and Cory Lewis. Nick Wesneski who has been the driver to beat suffered mechanical problems and did not finish the event.
Factory Stocks have been giving the fans some great racing in the last few weeks. This night would be no different. The points battle has already heated up and the two drivers chasing the top spot were in the spotlight of the feature. When the green flag fell Stan Matthews grabbed the lead from Chad Roberts. Matthews held one with some strong charges from Mike Mente and Brad Sites. Mente grabbed the lead from Matthews a caution involving the Sites machine. These top three drivers would race hard and swap the lead several times. Matthews and Sites battled hard making contact several times. A warning was given that if they continued to run like that they would be blacked flagged. That is just what happened as Matthews made contact with the Mente machine and Stan was sent off the racing surface. On the restart on lap 17 Mike Mente grabbed the lead and he was being chased by Brad Sites. Some contact was made between these two drivers and Sites was given the black flag also ending his night. When the checkers flew it was Mike Mente becoming the third new winner of the nights event. Rounding out the top five were Mike Chilson, Chad Roberts, George Briegel and John Palfreyman.
The $500 to win 30 lap Street Stock feature was next in line. Chuck Murray and Josh Ames brought the field to the green. Jason Benjamin got the lead from the top two. He held on until lap three when Nick Robinson sailed on by. Benjamin kept the Robinson machine in his sights and did everything he could to get back by. While Nick was up front, the battle behind him was tight and fast. The drivers were swapping the second through fourth position back and forth. As the race wound down it appeared that no one would be able to catch the Robinson machine. Until lap nineteen a very scary accident involving the Jason Townsend machine. Jason made contact with the front stretch wall causing him to flip several times. Jason climbed from the machine shaken, but not injured. His sharp looking number 8X suffered heavy damage. On the restart once again Jason Benjamin grabbed back the lead. Nick worked over the Benjamin machine until lap 26 when he regained the lead. The battle for the top five spots resumed, but it was Nick Robinson grabbing the win and a cool $500. Finishing in second was Jason Benjamin, third went to Ernie Martin, fourth to Ricky Davis and Gene Sharpsteen in fifth.
The final event of the night was the IMCA Mods. Larry Colton and Logan Terry made up the front row. Colton grabbed the lead with the rookie Brad Sites in second. Colton lost the lead to Victor McNeal. Lady luck has not been very nice to Victor early in the season, but he lead the feature until lap ten. Eddie Sites made his move around the McNeal machine for the lead. The event almost went completely without a caution until the final lap. Jared Kenney spun bunching up the field for a green, white, checkered finish. Brad Sites had been holding on to second position, but Eddie McKernan got around him to take over second. McKernan had hoped to take away the win from Eddie Sites, but had to settle for second. Great run for the rookie Brad Sites who finished in third, with fourth to Victor McNeal and fifth to Ray McClure.
