Tioga, Williamson still unbeaten

The Tioga Tigers fell behind 26-14 after one quarter, but rallied for a 69-61 victory over Candor on Friday, out-scoring their opponent 20-9 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Tioga, now 4-0 on the year, was led by Luke Dougherty with 22 points and Eric Zwerlein had 21 points in the victory.

David Ulrich had 10 points and Larry Brink finished with nine points.

Cody Bennett had four points for Tioga and Scott Foust finished with three points.

Zwerlein had four steals and Dougherty had four steals and seven rebounds.

"It started off pretty rough getting down 15 early in the second quarter," Tioga coach Dave Reese said. "They hit a three at the beginning of the second, then we went on a 25-8 run in the second. We had big games by Dougherty and Zwerlein; they stepped up big."

It was a career high for Zwerlein in points.

Tioga won the junior varsity game.

The Tigers will host Spencer Van-Etten on Tuesday, in a match-up of two teams that could both be undefeated atop the division.

Notre Dame 59, Waverly 53

WAVERLY, N.Y. - The Wolverines were out-scored by Notre Dame 20-12 in the second quarter Friday as the Crusaders picked up a victory, handing Waverly its first loss of the year.

"They played a very good defensive game," Waverly coach Lou Judson said. "I was very impressed with Zack Stevens' defense on Kevin Gorman, but at the same time we really struggled with their full-court pressure."

Gorman led Waverly with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists and Matt Rote and Ryan Hewitt each finished with 10 points in the loss.

Joe Terwilliger had nine points and Keenan Park finished with six points for Waverly.

Brad Bailey had three points and Tim Rote and Evan Van de Wall had two points each. Tim Rote added four steals for the Wolverines.

Kevin Minchen led Notre Dame with 18 points, while Ethan Monachino had 15 points for the Crusaders.

Waverly won the junior varsity game 42-22. Mark Connor finished with 12 points for the Wolverines.

Waverly is at Edison on Tuesday.

Montrose 50, Wyalusing 47

The Rams fell behind 12-5 after one quarter, but they fought back and had a chance to tie things in the final seconds.

Down by three with five seconds left, they got one chance to try to tie the game, but Montrose got a steal to seal the win.

Wyalusing was led by Aaron Johnson with 17 points and Caleb Sheldon finished with 11 points, two assists and three steals.

Paul Hugo had seven points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Miller finished with four points in the loss.

Tucker Allyn, Tyler Huffman and Reggie Davis had two points each for the Rams and Davis and Huffman each had three steals.

"They pressured us early and got a few early baskets, but we recovered pretty good," Wyalusing coach Mark Fogel said.

Montrose won the junior varsity game 41-31. Jeremy Allyn led Wyalusing with six points.

Williamson 67, Austin 37

The Warriors took a 38-18 lead at the half and rolled to a win Friday.

Williamson was led by Eric Vargeson with 17 points and Joe Gottwald finished with 13 points in the victory.

Levi Howe had 12 in the win and Abram Bonham finished with 10 points, while Jason Wilcox had nine points.

Alex Atwell had four points in the win and Doug Robinson had two points.

Howe had four assists and three steals, Wilcox had 10 rebounds and Gottwald had eight boards.

Williamson won the junior varsity game 48-13. Vargeson had 20 points in the win.

Williamson is at Sayre on Monday.

Cowanesque Valley 68, Canton 60, OT

The Warriors rallied from 11 down in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but the Indians held Canton to just four points in overtime to get the win.

Wyatt Baxter and Corey Peterson had 14 points each for the Warriors and Tallis Roberts had four points and Eddie Larcom finished with two points.

Cowanesque Valley got 17 points from Bryan Lee and Aaron Keene had 16 points. Garrett Moyer finished with 11 points and Mitchell Dent and Nick Simonetti had nine points each.

Lucas Dinkleday had four points and Evan McCall had two points in the win.

Cowanesque Valley won the junior varsity game 49-43 in overtime.

Canton is at North Penn today.

Wellsboro 56, Coudersport 41

The Green Hornets got 23 points from Ethan Callahn as they picked up a victory.

Kyle Wilcox had 13 points in the win and Jason Greenfield finished with 12 points.

Caleb Getty had six points for Wellsboro and Shawn Geiser had two points in the win.
