ATHENS - A week ago the Wildcats' Kirsten Colegrove was dealing with an injury and missing playing time.

However, she found something out during that time.

The Athens senior found out she was closing in on a big milestone and Wednesday she reached the milestone, breaking Athens' career goals record.

Colegrove had a hat trick to help lead Athens to a 6-0 win over Wyalusing on Friday, and giving her 95 goals for her career.

The Wildcats standout broke the previous record of 94 goals set by MaryEllen (Onofre) Rhodes in 2002.

"It feels pretty good," Colegrove said.

While she was out Colegrove realized she was close to the record.

"I think last week when I was hurt coach said I needed two to tie and three to break it," she said.

For Colegrove this year didn't begin the way she wanted with some injuries, but with the school record reached and an unbeaten record for the Wildcats things are looking up.

"It didn't help that I was hurt he first couple games," Colegrove said. "But it is getting better. This feels pretty good."

While the goals record is an individual milestone, Colegrove knows it took a team effort to help her get to this point.

"There is no way I could have done this without my teammates," she said.

All game long on Wednesday Colegrove could see her teammates were hoping she would get the record at home on senior night.

"I think they knew and they were setting me up all night," she said.

For Colegrove, who will play soccer at LeMoyne next year, it's going to be special having her name in the school record book.

"It will be really fun," she said. "I will love it."

Colegrove wasn't the only player getting a hat trick on Wednesday as Lizzie Reid got her first career hat trick for Waverly in the victory.

Colegrove started the scoring at 37:18 and at 32:21 she scored again off a Mackenzie Hafer assist.

Reid capped the first half scoring at 28:52 and she scored again at 38:25 of the second half.

At 33:28 Colegrove broke the record with her 95th career goal, capping her hat trick, and with just 2:29 left in the game Reid capped her hat trick off an assist from Haley Priester.

Athens had 22 shots and three corner kicks and Wyalusing had six shots and three corner kicks.

Morgan Westbrook had five saves in net for the Wildcats and Wyalusing finished with 10 saves in goal.

Athens won the JV game 2-1 as Hannah Reid scored both goals, with Sarah Cuno assisting on one of the goals.

Wyalusing hosts NEB on Friday and Athens travels to Williamson on Friday.
