Towanda boys top Montoursville
The Towanda boys' swim team defeated Montoursville 112-55 on Saturday. The Lady Knights fell 101-45.
On the boys' side a Towanda team of Keith Lamphere, Mike Schultz, Dalton Schultz and Trey Burlingame won the 200 medley relay in 2:12.63.
In the 200 free Knight Mike Caine won in 2:14.04 while teammate Mike Kerrick was third in 2:18.88.
Towanda's Derrick Cole won the 200 Im in 2:27.92 with Matt Schultz third in 2:36.87. Fellow Knight Blake Burlingame won the 50 free in 23.24 with teammates Jim Tice (26.46) and Alex Sedor (26.62) in second and third.
Caine won the 100 fly in 1:05.19 with teammate Schuyler Smith second in 1:07.23.
Blake Burlingame won the 100 free in 55.52 with Lamphere third in 59.62. Lamphere made districts with that time.
In the 500 free Sedor won in 6:18.81 with Smith third at 6:21.45. In the 200 free relay a Towanda team of Tice, Smith, Tyler Basse and Trey Burlingame won in 1:47.57. Cole took second in the 100 backstroke at 1:07.53, qualifying for districts in the process, with Kerrick third at 1:16.22.
Tice won the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.23 with Matt Schultz second in 1:18.54.
Towanda's team of Kerrick, Cole, Caine and Blake Burlingame won the 400 free relay in 3:59.63. Cole qualified for districts individually in the lead off spot.
On the girls' side a Towanda team of Alex Gannon, Courtney Locke, Elizabeth Schultz and Caroline Vana won in 2:16.25. Locke took second in the 200 IM in 2:32.83.
Gannon won the 50 free in 31.28 while also taking second in the 100 free in 1:09.39.
Locke won the 100 backstroke in 1:08.25 while Schultz was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.21. Vana took third in 1:32.53.
"The boys and the girls teams were sluggish," remarked coach Mike Locke. "We haven't practice since Tuesday and the performance today really showed it. We need to get back into the pool and start working again."
Towanda travels to Sayre on Tuesday.
Waverly 62, Odessa-Montour 32
Waverly Sophomore Josh Mastrantuono cruised to a new pool record at Odessa Montour Saturday as he swam a 1:02.97 in the 100 yard Breaststroke to break Odessa's Pool Record for the event that had stood for 20 years as OM's Eric DeRoche had set the record of 1:04.00 in 1994.
Mastrantuono had four wins on the night, winning the 200 IM in 2:30.08, then teaming with John Hallett, Brandon Anderson, and Mike Girolamo to win the 200 Medley Relay (1:56.94), and with Girolamo, Hallett, and Tanner Burt to win the 400 free relay (4:08.87). Hallett also won the 200 free (2:01.32) and 100 backstroke (1:01.79). Girolamo swam a personal best in the 100 fly to win in 1:09.22.
Other Wolverine swimmers to have personal bests were Tanner Burt in the 200 free (2:16.28), Lucas Beardsley in the 500 free (6:23.21), Dylan Hammond in the 500 free (7:02.29), and Tyler Brooks in the 100 Breast (1:32.81). Waverly improves to 5-2 in dual meets and will meet OM again next week in a home meet on Tuesday.
