Towanda hosts Tunkhannock in local swimming action
TOWANDA - Towanda and Tunkhannock swam in a scrimmage Thursday.
"This meet was a typical end-of-the-season meet for us," Towanda coach Mike Locke said. "We had a couple eye opener times but for the most part the team seemed sluggish. Near the end of the season is when we are putting in the most yardage of the year, and the result many of the times is slower and tired athletes. All this will be worth it when they start to rest."
On the girl's side, in the 200, free Morgan Dreisch finished third.
Sarah Lamphere won the 200 IM in 2:34.55 while teammate Courtney Locke was second. In the 50 free Meredith Corbett was second while teammate Hailey Innocenzo finished third while Caroline Vanna was second in diving.
Dreisch would take third in the 100 fly while Corbett won the 100 free in 1:04.03. Anna Belokur was third while teammate Destiny Foster was third in the 500 free.
Locke and Lamphere were second and third in the 100 backstroke.
Towanda's 400 free relay team of Lamphere, Locke, Dreisch and Corbett won in 4:28.14.
On the boy's side, in the 200 free, Christian Basse took second with teammate Michael Caine third. Derrick Cole took second in the boy's 200 IM.
Blake Burlingame won the 50 free in 23.23 while teammates Tyler Basse and Josh Morgan were second and third in diving. Caine was second in the 100 fly.
Burlingame won the 100 free in 53.22 with teammate Garrett Johnson taking third. His time of 59.98 qualified him for districts. Basse took third in the 500 free.
Austin Kriner won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.29 while teammate Michael Kerrick was second followed by Cole taking second in the breaststroke.
Also for Towanda Tyler Smith qualified for districts with his time of 59.64 in the opening leg of the 400 free.
GIRLS: Sayre 77, Danville 68
BOYS: Danville 105, Sayre 64
On the girl's side, Sayre's Katherine Porter won the 200 free in 2:06.99 while teammate Emily Schamel was third. Teammate Grace McClelland won the 200 IM in 2:35.61.
In the 50 free, Rachel Hurley was second while Courtney Bruer took second in diving.
Porter won the 100 fly in 1:01.22 with teammate Mathea Robbins second. Hurley took the 100 free in 1:01.61 while Schamel was second in the 500 free. Bruer would take third in that event.
McClelland won the 100 backstroke in 1:14.40 with teammate Marina Savercool second while Katrina Heil was second in the 100 breaststroke.
Sayre's team of Bruer, Schamel, Robbins and Savercool won the 400 free relay in 5:08.54.
On the boy's side, Josh Wolcott was second in the 200 free while Sam Shoemake won the diving in 208.80.
Lorenzo Servedio won the 100 fly in 1:01.68 with teammate Phillip Bennett taking second.
Wolcott was second in the 100 free while Brent Heil took third. Servedio won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.13 while Andy Platt was second in the 100 breaststroke. Nathan Chau took third in the event.
"I am very proud of our team tonight," Sayre coach James Schrader said. "Our girls held on and won their meet by 9. Our girls 200 Freestyle Relay ( Katherine Porter, Emily Schamel, Grace McClelland, and Rachel Hurley) lowered their record by just under a full second. Many new PR's were set and the girls are starting to realize their potential."
"On the guys side, they swam their hearts out tonight," Schrader said. "Many PRs along with some solid swims by our younger kids."
