Towanda, Mansfield advance in D4 playoffs
TIOGA JUNCTION - Towanda and Mansfield swept their way into the District IV, Class AA volleyball playoffs Saturday.
Towanda defeated Wyalusing 3-0 behind games of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-17.
For the Knights Alaina Wickwire had 20 kills, five blocks, eight points and six digs while Elizabeth Schultz had 11 points, 24 digs and three kills.
Alacia White added nine points, six kills, a block and 11 digs, Kayla Grimes had nine points and 13 digs, Sarah Dawsey had four points, three kills and 17 digs, Kayla Brown had two points, a kill, 28 assists and 10 digs and Tara Welliver had four kills, four blocks and an assist.
Macy Elliot added two digs while Kayla Miller had one.
For Wyalusing Brooke Force had six kills, Veronica Morrison, Delana Szemple and Madalyn Edsell had five kills, Keon Copp had four and Alexus Force had two.
Alicia Tewksbury had 10 assists, Danielle Salsman added eight while Madison Eberlin had five.
Mansfield beat Wellsboro 3-0 behind games of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-21.
For Wellsboro Alex Kurtz had four assists, nine points and an ace, Maggie Smith had 10 points, an ace and 12 digs, Danielle Mihalik had eight kills, Peyton Wilson had eight assists, Katie Straniere had 17 digs and Kaelyn Keane added five blocks.
Towanda will take on Shamokin at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday back at Williamson High School while Mansfield faces top seed Troy at 6 p.m.
