Towanda's Chesla, Waverly's Gorman highlight All-Region

It was another exciting football year for local teams, capped by Towanda's district run to the semi-finals.
Two local players stood out from the rest this year: Towanda's Travis Chesla and Waverly's Kevin Gorman.
Chesla was the Black Knights' go-to player on both offense and defense while Gorman was the area's leading rusher and one the best linebackers around.
Chesla took All-Region Player of the Year honors with Gorman earning offensive Player of the Year. Both are on first team for offense and defense.
Towanda's Cody Miller is the All-Region Defensive Player of the Year in large part due to his team record 10 interceptions. Miller's teammate Aaron Lamphere took the Lineman of the Year honors for anchoring Towanda's offensive attack.
Frank Insigna of Wyalusing earned the Newcomer of the Year award for his contributions on offense and defense in helping the Rams win the NTL Small School title.
The coaching staff award goes to the Black Knights for the only undefeated regular season record in the area.
On first team offense, Towanda's Dakota Roof was named quarterback with Gorman at fullback, Chesla at one running back and Tioga's Josh Manuel at the other running back. At the wide outs are North Penn's Graeme Zaparzynski, Athens' Dan Riley and Canton's Corey Peterson.
On the offensive line it's Lamphere, Tioga's Tyler Wiseman, Troy's Zach Bixby, Waverly's C.J. Doane and North Penn's Luke Berguson.
Rounding out the first offense is Sayre kicker Taylor Skerpon and Cowanesque Valley's Evan McCall for versatility.
On the defensive side for first team on the line is Canton's Kaleb Route, Towanda's Akeem Calaman, Waverly's Tyler Bowman and Insigna. The inside linebackers include Tioga's Tyler Spires and Wyalusing's Paul Hugo.
Chesla and Gorman headline the outside linebackers for first team along with Canton's Bill Sourbeer and Towanda's Justin Abma.
In the secondary along with Miller is Sayre's Rob Rought, Athens' Rickie Young and Wyalusing's Bryan Kolodziej. The first team punter is Tioga's Dave Ulrich with Waverly's Andy Yekenevich as the versatility player.
Also on the first team is Troy's Beau Parker for utility with his contributions on both offense and defense.
On second team offense, the quarterback is North Penn's Mackie Stiner with Insigna the fullback. The running backs include Troy's Matt Oldroyd and Canton's Bill Sourbeer while Towanda's Dean Frutchey is the tight end.
The two wide outs are Wellsboro's Ethan Callahan and Towanda's Nate Bennett, with North Penn's Marquis Delgado named versatility.
On the offensive line is Troy's Jordan Murray, Towanda's Zack Place, Waverly's Brad Fuller, Tioga's Kodi Floyd and Canton's Kyle High. The kicker for second team is North Penn's Ethan Wilston.
On second team defense for the line is Tioga's Chad Hulburt, Wyalusing's Pete Champluvier, Towanda's Bobby Mitros, Athens' Donnie Farrell and Waverly's Joe Wright. The linebackers are Athens' Colin Eby, Sayre's Nick Coyle, Wyalusing's David Pennell, and Athens' Derek Horton.
In the secondary is Troy's Logan Weed, Sayre's Aaron Voelker, Wyalusing's Bryan Brown and Towanda's Jordan Dawsey, with Troy's Marcus Oldroyd for utility and North Penn's Ryan Dinger at punter.
On the third team for offense is Ulrich at quarterback, Parker at fullback, and Athens' Josiah Lesser and North Penn's Skye Stiner at running back. The tight end is Hugo, with Miller and Wyalusing's Tucker Allyn the wide receivers. Wyalusing's Caleb Sheldon is the third team versatility.
On the line is Towanda's A.J. Lantz, Athens' Ryan Rosh, Athens' Todd Hall, Wellsboro's Brandon Bodine and Wyalusing's Josh Cummiskey. The kicker is Troy's Mason Jones.
On third team defense, the line is Canton's Aaron Miller, Wyalusing's Dennis Reeve, Cowanesque Valley's Tyler Bowers, Troy's Frank Salantino and Towanda's Nate Beers. The linebackers are Sayre's Alex Lyon, Waverly's Clint Deskins, Canton's Scott Rockwell and Troy's Devon Franks.
In the second is Sayre's Joe Yanuzzi, North Penn's Greg Pomarico, Troy's Clayton Schucker and Athens' Brad Frisbie. Athens' Justin Schlosser was named defensive utility with Canton's Ben Pepper as the punter.
