TOWANDA - The Black Knights were able to pull out some close matches to beat Canton 34-25 in NTL wrestling action Wednesday.
"I thought we got a good effort from our kids tonight," Towanda coach Bill Sexton said. "The number of matches that were close, we were finally able to win some of those. A pretty good overall effort tonight."
At 138 Towanda's Matt Bartholomew scored three back points in the final period to decision Canton's Travis Butcher 5-2.
"It was a good win to open up with," Sexton said.
At 145 Towanda's Justin Sheets scored an 11-5 win over Brooks Gleckner while at 152 Black Knight Dayton Wickwire rallied past Canton's Jacob Butcher.
"I was pleased with Dayton Wickwire's match," Sexton said. "Down 2-0 he road Butcher in the second. Then got an escape and takedown in the third to win it."
At 160 Towanda's Justin Hunsinger kept it rolling with a fall over Canton's Seth Martin in 4:39.
Warrior Josiah Bardo scored a fall over Towanda's Cole Sexton in 2:48 to get Canton on the board while at 182 Canton's Tyler Cole scored a 3-1 decision over Towanda's Dakoatah Manning.
At 195 Warrior Garrett Wesneski earned a 16-3 major decision over Towanda's Jeremy Sheets while at 220 Canton's Connor Route scored a fall over Logan Terry in 2:53.
Towanda's Talon Curry scored an 8-1 decision over Brady Bryington at 285. At 106 Canton's Dennis Route decisioned Kyle Blascak 8-5 followed by Knight Jared Lines scoring a fall over Canton's Gabriel Barnett in 2:43 at 113.
At 120 Towanda's Nick Secules scored a 16-5 major decision over Dylan Marbaker while teammate Terrick Vargason returned to the mat with a 1:05 fall over Canton's Brennan Gleckner at 126.
The Warriors won the final match, a 5-0 decision from Darren Killian over Steven Yates at 132.
Towanda will travel to North Penn today.
