Towanda tops Waverly; Canton, North Penn pick up NTL wins
WAVERLY, N.Y. - Towanda opened their wrestling season with a 46-24 win over Waverly Thursday.
"It was good to get a win," Towanda coach Bill Sexton said. "It's good to get the season started. A lot of good things tonight and also a lot of things we have got to work on. A good atmosphere, a good crowd. It's a pretty good start."
The Black Knights got falls from Breycin Fullmer (182), Garrett Pratt (285), Nick Secules (126), D.J. Knolles (145) and Justin Sheets (160).
At 195 pounds Towanda's Dakoatah Manning earned a 12-4 major decision over Jordon Huck while at 138 his teammate Terrick Vargason added a 10-6 decision over Waverly's Kacey Madigan.
Also for the Knights, Tristan Decker notched a 7-2 decision over Waverly's Joey Peters at 152 pounds.
Towanda's Mike Alberico (113) also scored a forfeit.
For Waverly Ryan Wolcott (220), A.J. Burkhart (106) and Jacob Schroyer (120) scored falls.
At 170 pounds Wolverine Brandon Ellers earned a 9-3 decision over Dayton Wickwire while at 132 Waverly's D.J. Meyers scored an 11-4 decision over Clay Mosier.
In JV bouts Sam Hay, Dalton Claupein and Larry Nichols earned wins for Towanda while Cory Gallow and Dan Spalding had wins for Waverly.
Towanda will host the Dandy Duals beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Canton 42, Williamson 33
In a big early season NTL match-up Canton pulled out a road win Thursday.
Canton would pick up six falls and won eight of the 14 matches en route to the victory.
Brady Bryington (285), Dennis Route (106), Spencer Castle (170), Tyler Cole (182), Garrett Wesneski (195) and Connor Route (220) scored pins for Canton.
At 113 Canton's Ethan Landis earned a 14-3 major decision over Williamson's Joey Brown while at 138 Canton's Brendan Cohick notched a 10-6 decision over Williamson's Carl Gorg.
For Williamson Tyrus Hamblin (120), Herman Briggs (126), Trevor McWhorter (145) and Billy Barnes (160) scored falls while Kirah Thompson (152) earned a 3-2 decision over Travis Butcher.
Williamson's Trenton McWhorter (132) scored a forfeit.
Williamson will travel to the Dandy Duals Saturday.
North Penn 55, Northeast Bradford 24
North Penn picked up their second NTL wrestling win on road Thursday.
Tyler Phipps (220), Sean Giles (120), Jaycob Myers (132), Charlie Andrews (138), Devin Remley (145) and Bradley Pequignot (160) all scored falls for North Penn.
Alex Kyle (106) and Carl Dinger (126) earned forfeits.
At 170 North Penn's Harvey Wood scored a 10-2 major decision over Northeast's Brandon Devonshire while at 195 North Penn's Zachary Kriner scored a 7-1 decision over NEB's Richard Forbes.
For Northeast Cody Clark (285), Caleb Garrity (182) and Austin Saxer (152) scored falls while Adam Russell (113) scored a forfeit.
Montgomery 51, Sullivan County 22
The Griffins won four matches in their IAC wrestling loss Thursday.
Tanner McCarty (220), Nate Ritinski (285) and Dylan Ammerman (160) scored falls for Sullivan. At 132 pounds Shawn Nitcznski earned a 12-4 major decision over Montgomery's Zachary Shadle.
The Red Raiders got pins from Kyle Drick (113) and Nicholas Buckle (126) while Joacob Chamberlin (120), Cody Englehart (152), Dylan Rupert (170) and Isaiah Bobotas (195) earned forfeits.
At 138 Montgomery's Zach Woodcock scored a 15-5 major decision over Sullivan's James Heinrich, at 145 pounds Raider Kobe Galentine earned a 19-3 technical fall over Joshua Gavitt, at 182 Raider Tyler Betz earned a 4-1 decision over Matt Dailey and at 106 Montgomery's Giosia Wenner scored a 7-0 decision over Maranna Nitcznski.
