Towanda wrestling to induct three new members in Hall of Fame
The Towanda wrestling Hall of Fame will induct three new members before their match against Hughesville today at 7 p.m.
Doug Gates - Class of 1993
Doug Gates was a standout lightweight on Towanda teams that won four straight league and North Section team titles between 1990 and 1993. During his Senior season, Gates captured his second North Section title and followed it up with runner-up finishes at districts and regionals. Gates concluded his Black Knight career by becoming Towanda's second ever state place winner by finishing third at 130 pounds.
Nick Webster - Class of 2000
Nick Webster fashioned an outstanding 3-year varsity career, winning 98 matches, 43 by fall and serving as team captain in both his Junior and Senior years. As an underclassman Webster won a section title in 1999, placed twice at districts and qualified for states finishing seventh at 171 pounds. Webster completed a stellar senior season highlighted by capturing the regional title at 171 pounds and finishing 5th in the state. Along the way Webster set then team records of 41 wins while going 24-0 in dual meets.
John Giffen - Class of 1965
John Giffen was a four year starter who anchored the lightweights on Towanda teams that won North Section titles in 1963 and 1965 and the league title in 1965. Giffen won individual section titles in 1963 and 1965. In 1963 Giffen placed second in district four, becoming Towanda's second ever place winner.
