Shippensburg University's Casey Norton, a Troy graduate, was named the 2013 PSAC Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year on Wednesday by the league's coaches.

Norton finished as the fastest freshman in the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship race (12th place) and earned All-PSAC honors with a 16th-place finish at the conference championships.

Overall this season, Norton ran in seven races for the Raiders and was the team's No. 1 or No. 2 runner in six of the seven. Among her many impressive regular season races was a 12th-place finish in the Paul Short Invitational 'Brown' race.

The award marks the fifth SU runner to be named PSAC Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year in the last seven seasons. Norton joins April Schlusser (2011), Patty Reis (2010), Neely Spence (2008) and Abby Huber (2007).
