Troy tops Athens in OT
EAST TROY - Perennial rivals, Troy and Athens met at TECE for the second time this season.
The outcome was the same as their first meeting with Troy coming out on top by one goal in overtime 1-0.
Evan Polly, who missed on an empty net on the opening play of the game, rectified the situation three minutes into overtime. He was assisted by Trevor Hodge.
Troy had the better of the possession and opportunities in the game.
The Trojans had 11 shots on goal and nine corner kicks while Jason Esaias made two saves in the net.
Athens had two shots on goal and one corner kick, Neil Carpenter made 8 saves.
The JV game was 3-0 for Troy. Collin Binford had two scores and Bradin Heimbach one goal. Assisting on Binford's goals were Heimbach and Taylor Hoffman.
Troy will traveling to NE Bradford on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Wellsboro 1, Galeton 0
A Dawson Prough goal off a Spencer Kreisler assist in the 54th minute pushed the Hornets past Galeton in NTL West boy's soccer action Tuesday.
"Going to Galeton is always a tough test," Wellsboro coach John Shaffer said. "We kicked and chased in the first half but in the second half we started to pass the ball around and we created good chances. We were unlucky not to score a few more goals but we did enough for a win."
Shaffer was especially pleased with his team's defense.
"Another clean sheet for our defense sets a good tone going into the last few games of the season."
Jake Mitchell made six saves in goal for Wellsboro.
The Hornets improve to 5-7-1.
Northeast Bradford 8, Sayre 0
Six different players scored as the Panthers picked up another NTL East boys' soccer win Tuesday.
Colton Snyder scored the first two goals, the first at 35:13 while the second was at 26:20 off an Isaiah McPherson assist.
Jake Beaudoin got into the act at 22:10 off a Justin Beaudoin assist, followed by McPherson scoring off a Snyder assist at 19:56.
30 seconds later Aaron Pifer scored off a Snyder helper to make it 5-0, followed by McPherson scoring off a Pifer helper at 12:16 to put the Panthers up 6-0 at the half.
Dylan Chapman started second half scoring at 23:40 off a Todd Bonin assist, followed by Bonin scoring at 16:05 off a McPherson helper to make it an 8-0 final.
Northeast out shot Sayre 31-7 and had more corner kicks 8-2.
James Zajac had seven saves for the Panthers while Sayre made 12 saves in goal.
The Panthers will host Troy on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Tioga 1, Odessa-Montour 0, OT
Paige Hendershot scored off an Annie Wainwright assist with 35 seconds left in overtime to give the Tigers a win in IAC girls' soccer action Tuesday.
Tioga out shot Odessa 20-9 and had more corner kicks 2-1.
Tioga's Hannah Manwaring made six saves in goal for Tioga while OM keeper Kirsta Rhodes had 11 stops.
