The Valley Youth Hunter Education Challenge, Inc. participated with over 260 other children during the state competition and they brought home the following:

In the Junior Muzzleloader Event the Junior Valley YHEC Blue Team took first.

In the Junior Shotgun Event, the Junior Valley YHEC Blue Team took second.

In the Junior Muzzleloader Event the Junior Valley YHEC Snipers team took third.

In the Senior Rifle Event the Senior Valley YHEC Blue team took third.

And in individual events Evan Ely was second in the Junior Muzzleloader event with a score of 80, with the tie breaker a better score in the Hunter Safety Exam, Roland Pyhtila was second in the Junior Archery event with a score of 114, Devin Pelton was third in the Junior Shotgun event with a score of 105 and Jarrett Randall was second in the Junior Muzzleloader event with a score of 80.

Now it is on to the international competition at Mansfield, Pa., July 20-25 with 14 of the children competing at this event, especially because it is so close to home. You have to attend the state competition to be eligible to sign up for this event. Any questions regarding Valley Youth Hunter Education, please call Nanette Lowery at 570-882-9613. The fee to go to Nationals is $495 for each child. There will be a sporting clay shoot Sunday, June 29 and July 13 to help these young shooters compete at Nationals. This is open to the public.
