After winning two individual titles against then No. 1 Oklahoma last Friday, Alabama's Lauren Beers has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Gymnast of the Week the league office announced.

"Lauren had a tremendous meet against Oklahoma," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "She continues to improve week-by-week and she has certainly given us a boost as we head into the championship season."

The Warren Center native enjoyed a career night against the Sooners, winning the vault with a career-best 9.95 and the floor exercise with a career-best 9.9. Her 9.95 on the vault led the Tide to a season-best 49.525 on the vault. She also made her collegiate debut on the uneven bars, scoring a 9.825, helping lead the Tide to a season-best 49.425 team mark.

Beers helped the Crimson Tide snap the Sooners' season-long win streak, leaving Oklahoma 19-1 going into the postseason. She also helped Alabama close out its fourth consecutive undefeated regular-season home slate.

Beers and her teammates get the postseason started with the SEC Championships this Saturday in Little Rock, Ark. After competing at the SEC Championships this Saturday, the Tide returns home as host of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Championship on April 6. Tickets for the NCAA Regional Championship are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum or online at RollTide.com.
