Waverly boys, Notre Dame girls pick up wins
ODESSA, N.Y. - Waverly boys and Notre Dame girls picked up IAC divisional track and field wins Tuesday to start the season.
The Wolverines won 74.5-50.5 while the Lady Crusaders won 76.5-55.5.
On the boys' side a Notre Dame 4x800 relay of Dan Cleary, Mike DiFabio, Garrett Butters and Tony Volino won in 10:35.5.
Waverly's Jim Heffner won the 110 hurdles in 17.6 with teammate Jon Puusalu in second. Fellow Wolverine Ryan McFarland won the 100 in 11.7 with Notre Dame's Carl Shen second and Waverly's Jacob Goble third.
Cleary won the 1600 in 5:05.7 followed by Waverly's Randy Chandler and Crusader Matt Karee in second and third. Waverly's 4x100 relay of Dylan Wright, Dick Northrop, Jacob Goble and Ryan McFarland won in 47 seconds.
Waverly's Dick Northrop won the 400 in 54.4 followed by teammate Kendrick Wood in second. Waverly's Brandon Bostwick and Notre Dame's Kassra Eshraghi third for third.
Heffner won the 400 hurdles in 65.9 followed by Puusalu and DiFabio in second and third.
Volino won the 800 in 2:17.3 followed by Waverly's Austin Trengo in second and Karee in third.
Shen won the 200 in 24.1 followed by McFarland and Wood in second and third. Butters won the 3200 in 11:16.6 with Cleary second and Chandler third.
Waverly's 4x400 relay of Nothrop, Puusalu, Jacob Goble and McFarland won in 3:51.2.
Shen won the long jump in 19-feet, 7-inches with Nothrop second. Wright won the pole vault in 11-feet with teammate Josh Mastrantuono second.
Notre Dame's Bill Marcy won the triple jump in 36-feet, 6-inches with Puusalu second. In the shot put Notre Dame's Eric Brennan won in 31-feet, 5 1/2-inches while Waverly's Drew Zobel and Keilen Carpenter were second and third. Zobel won the discus in 107-feet, 2-inches with Brennan second and Waverly's Brandon Anderson third.
On the girls' side Waverly's 4x800 relay of Katelyn Moore, Kelsey Frank, Danielle Burkhart and Sam Goble won in 10:41.3.
Notre Dame's Jenny Smithers won the 100 hurdles in 17.0 followed by Waverly's Shelby Tubb and Sidney Shafer in second and third.
Crusader Brittany Schutrum won the 100 in 13.0 followed by teammate Deborah Diarra in second and Waverly's Kaylee Uhl tied with Notre Dame's Victoria Schutrum in third.
Notre Dame's Mary Pelkowski won the 1500 in 5:32.7 followed by Waverly duo Daylen Smith and Kelsey Frank. Notre Dame's 4x100 relay of Smithers, Mara Skordynski, Brittany Schutrum and Victoria Schutrum won in 51.3.
Uhl won the 400 in 1:00.7 followed by Diarrah and Goble while Smithers won the 400 hurdles in 1:11.7 followed by teammate Mia Herlan in second and Waverly's Kylie Newman in third.
Uhl won the 800 in 2:37.3 with Goble second and Notre Dame's Allegra Dawes third. Brittany Schutrum won the 200 in 26.8 followed by Crusaders Skordynski and Reilly Edger.
Pelkowski won the 3000 in 12:28.3 followed by Franks and Smith while Notre Dame's 4x400 relay of Brittany Schutrum, Smithers, Victoria Schutrum and Diarra won in 4:14.2.
Skordynski won the long jump in 14-feet, 8 1/2-inches followed by Waverly's Breanna Featherson and Newman in second and third. Waverly's Sarah Rote won the discus in 81-feet, 6 3/4-inches followed by Notre Dame's Christine Schmidt in second and Waverly's Fallon Huck in third.
Skordynski won the high jump in 4-feet, 6-inches followed by Herlan and Shaffer while Rote won the shot put in 27-feet, 2 1/2-inches followed by Schmidt and Huck.
In the triple jump Waverly's Erin Fagan won in 27-feet, 2 1/4-inches followed by Notre Dame's Macie Drake and Newman in second and third.
Waverly is at Mansfield University Saturday while Notre Dame travels to the Waite Invitational.
