Waverly clinches playoff spot with win over Edison
WAVERLY, N.Y. - The Waverly Wolverines locked up a spot in sectionals with a 68-34 win over Edison on Thursday.
Waverly led 26-22 at the half, but outscored Edison 42-17 in the second half, including 27-11 in the fourth, to get the win.
Hunter Bodine led four Waverly players in double figures with 12 in the victory.
Garrett Sutryk and Tim Sutton each had 11 for the Wolverines and Alex Uhl finished with 10 points.
Dylan Perry and Colton Miller each finished with six for Waverly and Peyton Miller had five. Alex Volpe had three points and Ryan McFarland and Tanner Cantrell added two points each.
Sutton had eight boards and Bodine had six rebounds and four assists, while Peyton Miller had four assists and Sutryk had four steals.
Josh Cosgrove led Edison with nine and Adam Shumaker and Brandon Michaud had eight each.
North Rome 64, Damascus 60, OT
Ben Haefka had 26 points to lead North Rome to the victory on Thursday in the first round of the Central Tournament.
Down three with nine seconds left in the game Nathan Romanauski found Nathan Helmuth for the tying three as time expired. North Rome outscored Damascus 7-3 in overtime to get the win.
Helmuth had 15 for North Rome and Romanauski had nine.
Johnny Mosier had six for North Rome and Kyle Bert finished with four, while Nate Gray and Seth Winward finished with two points each.
Haefka had a double-double adding 10 boards and he had four steals, while Mosier had nine rebounds and two assists, with two blocks.
Romanauski had four boards and three assists and Gray had three steals, while Riley Gorsline had six rebounds and two steals.
Helmuth had three assists and six steals.
Andrew Sheard led Damascus with 19 and Nick Adams had 18.
North Rome girls are at Central Baptist at 1:30 p.m. today against Cornerstone Christian from Manchester, Ct. and the boys will play at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Cannan Christian and Ross Corners.
