Waverly edges Newfield
WAVERLY, N.Y. - The Wolverines overcame a slow start to beat Newfield 51-44 in IAC girl's basketball action Friday.
The Trojans led 12-6 after the first quarter but a 21-7 second quarter in favor of Waverly put them ahead 27-19 at the half. From there they kept Newfield at bay.
Sabrina Bowman had 17 points and six steals to lead Waverly while Reylyn Schwartzhoff added 12 points and 13 boards for a double-double.
Jenna Bowman chipped in with nine points while Jordan Raupers had five. Victoria Cron netted four points with six boards while Emily Myers had three with five steals. Emily Walker rounded out the scoring with one point while adding four boards and three steals.
Erica Carney led Newfield with 16 points.
Newfield won the JV game 62-34. Kiana Manuel and Katie McAvoy had 14 points each for Waverly.
The Wolverines host Odessa-Montour on Tuesday.
Tioga 54, Watkins Glen 12
TIOGA CENTER, N.Y. - The Tigers jumped out early and never looked back as they picked up an IAC girl's basketball win Friday.
Emily Schweiger and Hannah Manwaring had 13 points each to lead the Tigers. Manwaring added eight boards and three assists while Schweiger grabbed seven rebounds.
Callie Patsellis netted 10 points, Natalie Burns scored six, Lexi Swagler and Sarah Whitney had four points each while Dani Barto and Sierra Beebe had two points each.
Whitney and Bardo had three assists each as well.
Watkins Glen won the JV game 35-32 as Lynzey Baker had 11 for the Tigers.
Tioga will host Newark Valley on Tuesday.
NRCS 42, Triboro Christian Academy 24
Cristen Mosier flirted with a triple-double as North Rome Christian School picked up a girl's basketball win Friday.
Mosier had 30 points, 15 points and seven steals to lead NRCS to the victory.
Larissa Alteri added six points and seven rebounds for NRCS while Carianna Miller netted three. Sarah Malkemes scored two while Olivia Noone rounded out the scoring with one.
Wellsboro 43, Cowanesque Valley 28
Mackenzie Marple had 16 points to lead the Hornets to an NTL West girl's basketball win.
Kim Acorn added eight points and nine boards while Sarah Ingerick also had eight points. Hannah Zuchowski netted five, Kiana Acorn had three, Jordan Butters scored two while Jessie Catherman picked up one.
Wellsboro won the JV game 4-9 behind 18 points from Sarah Ingerick.
