Waverly falls to Watkins Glen, Notre Dame picks up win
WAVERLY, N.Y. - Waverly rallied late but it wasn't enough as Watkins Glen held on to win 54-48 in IAC Large School South Division action in boy's basketball Friday.
The Senecas led 13-9 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 27-21 at halftime. After pushing the lead to 41-31 after three Waverly out scored them 17-13 in the fourth quarter but that's as close as they got.
Patric Bronson led the Wolverines with 12 points while Dylan Perry added nine. Cody Marchese, Zack Cooney and Ryan McFarland had six points each with McFarland also grabbing 10 boards.
Alex Uhl netted five while Tim Sutton scored four.
The Wolverines will travel to Notre Dame on Tuesday.
Notre Dame 70, Newark Valley 40
The Crusaders jumped out early and held the Cardinals at arm's length as they picked up an IAC boy's basketball win Friday.
Notre Dame led 18-3 after the first quarter but Newark Valley fought back in the second, out scoring the Crusaders 16-15. Notre Dame finished strong, though, out scoring Newark Valley 38-21.
Tom Agen led the Crusaders with 16 points while Darius Garvin netted 10. Devon Jackson and Jonas McCaig had nine points each, Hunter Thomas had six points, Derek Marshall added five, Nate Niles scored four while Brian Hale, Chris Rowe, Devonte Gaskins and Wyatt Martin had two points each.
Ryan Coleman led Newark Valley with 15 points.
The Crusaders won the JV game 53-34.
Notre Dame hosts Waverly on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. start.
Susquehanna 74, Northeast Bradford 36
The Panthers got down early and couldn't rally back in non-league boy's basketball action Friday.
Jordan Goodwin led the way for Northeast as he nearly had a double-double of 11 points and nine rebounds. Shawn Hakes chipped in with eight points for the Panthers.
Todd Bonin had four points and three assists for Northeast while Caleb Gerrity netted four. Elijah Arias scored three points while Nikolus Geiser and Mason Merrill had two points a piece.
Panther Ryan Horne had three assists.
Andrzej Tomcyzk and Mark Zappe had 15 points each to lead Susquehanna.
Susquehanna won the JV game 41-26.
Northeast will travel to Blue Ridge on Monday.
Edison 54, Tioga 29
The Spartans jumped out to a 15-3 first quarter lead and the Tigers didn't recover in IAC boy's action Friday.
John Dougherty had nine points to lead the Tigers while Dakota Skinner scored seven. Dustin Sherman, Zach Baker and Dan Graves had three points each while Josh Kithcart and Dylan Babcock scored two.
Tioga won the JV game 44-36 behind 13 points from Adam Zwierlein.
