WAVERLY, N.Y. - The last time the Waverly Wolverines and Notre Dame Crusaders met in a girls' basketball game, the Wolverines built an early lead, only to watch the Crusaders rally for a victory.

On Thursday the Wolverines again built an early lead and again the Crusaders fought back in the third quarter, but this time Waverly had all the answers as they won 53-42.

"I thought we came out strong," Waverly coach Brian Miller said. "They battled back in the third quarter. I was getting a little worried with deja vu. They (Notre Dame) came out of the locker room with intensity and a chip on their shoulder and took the lead kind of like they did up at Notre Dame when they took the lead and never gave it back.

"We seemed more poised today. Reylyn (Schwartzhoff) had seven in the third quarter and sixth in the foruth quarter. So many girls stepped up. We moved Cassidy Farr to Detta Gublo beacuse she beat us pretty good last time. She had a good game, but she scored all her points but two in the first half."

Schwartzhoff had a career-high 27 points to lead Waverly and she had a double-double, adding 10 rebounds. Sabrina Bowman had 12 points, six steals and six assists and Victoria Cron had five points, six boards and three steals.
