Waverly fell to Greene 3-1 in the final day of the girl's soccer Greene Tournament.

Greene went up 2-0 on two goals, but late in the first half Jenna Bowman cut the lead to 2-1 off a Sarah Sharpsteen pass. Greene would add another goal in the second half to make it a 3-1 final.

"The Waverly girls played a very good all around game," Waverly coach Brian Myers said, "We controlled a majority of the possession and were in Greene's defensive half of the field most of the game. Greene's goalie made some very good saves. Just one of those games where we could not get the ball in the net. Midfield play was incredible with Emiley Myers, Dani Talenti in center mid positions and Liia Carpenter and Sarah Sharpsteen at the outside mid positions. The team is improving and that is what we talk about everyday. Just get better each time out."

Waverly out shot Greene 20-10 and had more corners 4-1.

Waverly keeper Allie Frutchey had eight saves.

Montoursville Tournament

Towanda dropped both games while competing in the Montoursville Tournament.

The Black Knights fell to Hughesville on Friday 6-1, then lost to Montoursville 2-0 Saturday.

"Playing the first game against Hughesville was the big test for the young Towanda team," Towanda coach Jaime Castillo said. "It was tough to play against a team that dominated the midfield, they were fast, skillful, and experienced."

"We did a much better job competing with Montoursville as the game was scoreless throughout the first 65 minutes of the match," Castillo mentioned about the second game, "We know we need to get back to the practice field and realign the midfield and offensive lines."

Castillo was happy with his team's effort.

"The kids played their hearts out, and we will improve our passing game as the NTL season kicks off next week," he said. "Billy Place did a terrific job on goal and, Jesse Olsen scored the only goal for Towanda; other outstanding players included Justin Sekula, Brad Sparbanie, Nick Kravitz, Kam Kameron, and Nick Susko."
