Waverly girls win tourney opener
WAVERLY - The Wolverines advanced to the final of their annual Christmas Tournament with a 49-33 victory over Tioga on Thursday.
The game was also an IAC matchup for the schools and it was close in the early going with Waverly leading 11-10 after one quarter.
In the second the Wolverines outscored the Tigers 17-7 to take an 11-point lead into the half.
Kylie Newman led Waverly with 14 points and Reylyn Schwartzhoff had 10 for the Wolverines in the victory.
Emiley Myers had nine points for Waverly and Kiana Manuel had six points, while McKehanna Mattison finished with four points.
Jordan Raupers, Taylor Bodine and Katie McEvoy each finished with two points in the win.
Olivia Howland led Tioga with eight points and Kaitlyn Burridge and Taylor Ayres each finished with six points for the Tigers.
Lynzy Baker, Katelyn Stubbs and Rachael Graham each finished with four points for Tioga and Alexis Swagler had one point.
Tioga got nine rebounds and a steal from Swagler and Howland had five boards and a steal.
Baker, Burridge and Graham each had four boards and Baker and Burridge had a steal, while Burridge also had a block.
Barto finished with four assists in the game.
Port Alleghany Christmas Tournament
Smethport 50, Galeton 40
Galeton led 10-8 after one quarter, but they were outscored 21-4 in the third as Smethport pulled away.
Galeton got a game-high 24 points from Latascia Shadle and Mataya McPherson finished with seven in the game.
Ashley Cizek had four for Galeton and April Howell had three, while Alisha Shaw added two points.
