Waverly's Myers makes All-State
Waverly's Emiley Myers has accomplished a lot in her young soccer career.
She can add another one to that as she made the NYSSCOGS/NYSSWAm, Class B All-State fifth team on Monday.
"It means alot," Myers remarked. "It's really exciting. I'm kind of surprised, I didn't even have that in mind."
Her coach Brian Myers is proud of her on many levels.
"I think it's a good accomplishment," he said. "I think the biggest thing is it helps the team to get players recognized like that. I'm pretty pumped about it, I don't know if Waverly's ever had an all-state player in soccer."
Myers is also proud of her from a father's standpoint as well.
"I think making all-state is a reward for all the hard work she puts in," he said. "Emiley has played soccer a lot of years at a high level, I think making the all-state is a reward for the hard work she puts in. It makes me proud of her to see the countless hours, just seeing how much work she puts in."
They also believe this helps Waverly as a program, too.
"I think it makes Waverly look really good," Emiley remarked. "It's exciting for our program to come so far."
Brian hopes that kids will see what Emiley has achieved and put in the extra effort to try and emulate her.
"We have a number of kids that play soccer and they're starting to play year round," he explained. "As a coach I preach it a lot, players putting in the extra effort in the off season will reap rewards from it. I just see the level of play in our area go up because the girls are really playing at higher levels and getting individualized training. It definitely helps our younger kids who look up to Emiley tha when they see this accomplishment it will have extra drive for themselves."
As for Emiley, she's has plenty of time to improve on the fifth team finish.
"It feels really good since I have two more years left," she said. "I just plan to improve. I can only get better."
Three Notre Dame players made All-State for Class C.
Rebecca Watts made first team while Hannah Haskell and Brittany Schutrum made fourth team.
